Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K + Elgato Cam Link 4K = No 2160p

PostWed Jan 19, 2022 6:03 pm

I just bought a Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Plus and was excited to use it as a webcam, but there seems to be a compatibility issue with Elgato Cam Link 4K : the 2160p option under Monitor > HDMI is greyed out at 50, 59.97 or 60 fps; only 30 fps or below will output in UHD.

I never had any problem using the Elgato Cam Link 4K with 2160p60 signals before. All drivers are up to date and I am using the fastest port available on my PC (USB 3.2).

Am I expecting too much?

There’s no compatibility issues here, it’s just a limitation on HDMI output from the camera. Please check specs before buying “4k” camera… Not all output 4k…

The Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Plus does have HDMI UHD output.

Not at all. Contrary to the BMPCC 4K and 6K, the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K can output 2160p60 through HDMI according to it's feature list and its instructions.

CAM LINK 4K – the USB stick with an HDMI input, yes?

It officially tops out at 30 fps for 2160p.

I in fact ensure it’s limited to 1080p 60 fps when using it for live streaming or webcam purposes cause it’s easier on the bandwidth.

Not sure how exactly you’ve been using it for 2160p at 60 fps – might want to double check that.

The Studio Camera 4K Plus’s HDMI port does support 10-bit 4:2:2 2160p up to 60 fps though, so you might want to try 4K60 S+ or other capture cards that also support it.

I was convinced it could do 2160p at 60 fps, but it appears I was mistaken. Fortunately, I have access to a
Elgato Game Capture 4K60 Pro MK.2 that should do the trick.

Thanks for clearing that up.
