Atomos Ninja V+ on BMPCC6/6K PRO

PostSun May 22, 2022 1:00 am

What's your thoughts, why Atomos doesnt include 6K Apple ProRes recording with Ninja V+ on BMPCC6K/6K Pro cameras? Is it technically possible?

Braw isn’t technically raw so one couldn’t record to PRR as the luminance channel is debayered prior to encoding.

The pocket cameras do not output raw sensor data over HDMI. So no, it's not possible unless both BMD and Atomos co-operate and make changes. There have been no signs of that ever happening. BMDs DaVinci Resolve can't even read Apple ProRes.

In favor of novices, let’s make clear that Resolve can read ProRes. It just can’t read ProRes RAW.

Because the camera doesn't output any kind of RAW signal. They don't even allow this for their own BRAW recorder / monitor...

AND. Because it's Atomos....

Thanks Uli, that's what I meant to say. I'm one week in on a two week very restricted calorie diet which should explain a lot. :)

What about the USB-C port? Seems like raw recording works straight to hard drives. The various raw encoding schemes over SDI or HDMI are using those transports as data streams not image formats.

Re: Atomos Ninja V+ on BMPCC4

Hi BMPCC 4K connoisseurs.

I have a question. I ordered an Atomos Ninja V+ for my Panasonic Lumix GH6. Can I also use the Ninja on the PCC4K? Why the question? There is no PCC4K in the Atomos Ninja V+ compatibility list.
After finding this topic, my addition.

#1. Can I use the preview and features?
#2. Is ProRes passed through to recording?

Many Thanks
Regards Hansi

1. Since the Ninja has a HDMI input, yes.
2. No, but the Ninja can do its own recording of the HDMI signal (ProRes among others, but not ProRes RAW).

Depending on your needs, it may not be the ideal combination for price, but it might be more future-proof.

Hi.
Many Thanks.
The answer is perfect for me and my PCC4K. This cam has taken a backseat to me (because of the fungi on the sensor).
