m42 to Metabones Nikon G - is it possible?

PostWed May 25, 2022 12:31 pm

Hi guys

Just wanted to ask those who know - is it possible to hook up a Helios 44 to an m42-to-nikon adapter, then attach the adapter to the metabones nikon original bmpcc speed booster? Have looked about, but some guys say its ok, some guys say it can damage things. Anyone here can help me - someone who has tried it maybe?

Thanks

Gary

The Metabones 0.58x Speed Booster for the OG BMPCC has glass elements about 10mm below the flange surface. The M42 to Nikon F adapters that offer infinity focus have a 1.4x tele glass element that looks like it would use up all of that distance or more. Even if it did fit, would a tele element work right up against a wide angle set of optics?

The reviews of these cheap adapters on BHPhotovideo.com complain about softness, fog and middle spot flares. They say that they are unusable below F/2.8-5.6, even with a fast lens.

An adapter that does not have a tele glass element would not be able to focus on infinity and would only be good for macro shots.

Could you? Probably.
Should you? No.
