BMPC4k Firmware 7.9 Broke Bluetooth

PostSat Jun 25, 2022 8:37 pm

I can no longer see the camera from Iphone or iPad, even after removing the old one. It doesn't show up on any devices under Bluetooth.

I removed all bluetooth devices from my camera, and even did a full wipe of the camera.

I just tried and was able to successfully connect to my PCC4k with firmware 7.9 by using an iPhone and the Bluetooth+ app.
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

Then any ideas why my devices no longer see my Camera?

it may depend on the app, but I don't know exactly.

The Bluetooth+ app on iPad connects to the Pocket 4k camera, but the start button in the app does not light up after being pressed. And a second press does not stop the recording. One has to stop recording with the camera record button.

On Android phone, the app 'Blackmagic Pocket Control' connects, the start button lights up, and does indeed stop recording when pressed a second time.

Both apps do not reflect the new drive display. Only CFast and SD card are indicated. The USB port is not visible. I guess it is up to the app developers to adapt to the 7.9 camera firmware.

Same here (Pocket 6K Pro). The Bluetooth App for iPhone is useless since the new 7.9 camera version.
The rec button doesn't light up when being pressed (so I don't know if the camera on the balcony is actually running), and it's not possible to stop the recording!

6K pro here

bluetooth on my portkeys monitors (BM5 and LH5H) and my iPhone (Xs iOS15.5)
and iPad pro (iOS 15.5) works as expected.

many errors occur when the firmware is not updated from the latest version (4K/6K 7.3 and 6Kpro 7.5.1) !!!

there was a tutorial posted here on how to fix this:

1. Download and install Camera 7.7.3 from the support website:

To put the camera into recovery mode. To do this:
i. Disconnect all power sources and remove the battery to ensure that the camera is totally powered down.
ii. Connect power to the camera and power it up while holding down the focus button.
iii. Camera will power up with a blank screen and the fan should be running.

2. Once the camera is powered up in recovery mode, launch Blackmagic Camera Setup v7.7.3 and connect the camera to the computer via USB. This should now allow the camera to be detected by the computer. Click on the ‘Update’ button and allow the process to complete.

3. Once the update is completed, power cycle the camera. Then install Camera v7.9.

4. Now update the camera normally with Camera v7.9 and this should now be able to complete successfully.

Do you have an official statement from BMD on this?

I have not discovered anywhere a hint that 7.9 should be installed from the previous firmware version.
I do not remember exactly the previous version on my 6K, but it was relatively new.
Indeed, the 7.9 update has worked smoothly and the camera runs flawlessly.

I think, and IMO, as a general practice, to try and always update firmware from the latest version. It's not that hard to do and minimizes the chance of introducing errors that would not have occurred if one just takes their time to update from the nearest/latest version. I have done this for all my BMD cameras and so far, I've not encountered issues while upgrading. Good luck!

I may have the same issue. My Portkeys LH5P did not connect the first time using it after the update to 7.9. I haven't done any troubleshooting yet.

I actually have updated my 6K from firmware 7.7.3 to 7.9 and have exactly the same issue.
From the app on my iPod Touch, I can start recording but the button won't turn red. Then I can't stop recording!
Same issue when coupled with the Nucleus wheel.

Well K. Lam never said that.
He just helped the guy to successfully update his backup camera. Not to solve our issue.

I have the exact same issue on both BMPCC 6K.
Updated from 7.7.3 to 7.9. All went super smooth.

Bluetooth connects just fine.

But, though I am able to start recording, I can't stop it from neither the app nor the Nucleus wheel.

It is now important to name the app you are using.

My experience with the 6K Pro and firmware 7.9 is that the app Bluetooth+ (which is a free third party app) no longer works correctly (record button issue).

The app Blackmagic BlueConnect (also third party, developed by Dean Lusk, costs a few dollars) works flawlessly with 7.9

How far back do I need to upgrade the firmware in progression for me to install the latest firmware. I have only installed the first two on the p4k.

Today came an update of Bluetooth+ which fixed that problem that the recording couldn’t be stopped by the app anymore.

Yes, Bluetooth+ works again.
AFAIK the recent minor update also made the progression of updates unnecessary.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

That update inspired me to buy the Bluetooth+ app since the developer obviously likes to keep it current!

Disappointed that I can’t document the aperture in a shot with the available Bluetooth +slate. Forces one to go to the camera, but would be very handy as part of the app’s slate.
