BMPCC 6K Pro / T5 Drive availability

PostTue Aug 16, 2022 3:56 pm

Hi there,

Wondering if anyone can make any suggestions on what to use for a 6k Pro in lieu of T5 drives. Have read about the T7s being problematic with 6ks even following the firmware updates. Freezing, overheating causing frame dropping etc, etc... Availability of T5s have been waning for a while - suspect these are being phased out which would be really unfortunate. Currently can't find 2tb T5s in Canada anywhere.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, can’t help with the T5, but reminding you there are alternatives such as the Wise Portable SSD 1 TB that has performed very well for me on the BMPCC4K; there’s also a new 2 TB but that may not have the same approvals and battle experience as the 1 TB drive. It comes with a mount for a conventional camera cage design.

I got a Wise SSD because of recording stop from dropped frame to a T5 at BRAW max on a hot day. Real bummer to the job.

The Wise hasn't dropped a frame at full filesize in hot/bright weather.

I don't take my T5's outta the studio anymore.

Good info, rNeil. I finally experienced dropped frames with my T5 at full res 6k last weekend. It was expected but still a bummer. Maybe some day there will be an affordable CFast card that supports full res shooting.

If Blackmagic their next camera doesn’t have CfExpress I’ll be very sad. The tech is so much more affordable and cfast prices and availability have absolutely stagnated.
