ANAMORPHIC SANDWICH

PostSat Feb 04, 2023 3:51 pm

For sake of the curious, this linked youtube clip is a short handheld test in night conditions with a Century Optics 16:9 front-anamorphic adaptor, Nikon 50mm f1.4 lens and Nikon-adapted Laowa 1:33 rear-anamorphic adaptor, seeking a 2x cinemascope look.

If you are fine with a distressed look, soft image and flare, the combination yields it but far better results would be yielded by the new 2x anamorphic lenses or 1:33 anamorphic lenses mounted on the PL-Mount Laowa rear-anamorphic adaptor.

The pint of focus was the parked white car.

The arrangement was hanging off the front of an Ursa Mini Pro which I recently reconstituted from two failed cameras and was the second test of the camera itself - so far so good touch wood.

It was my first adventure in using BRAW and processing in Resolve at 4K. Whatever BM has done to the aquisition format and Resolve 18 is something quite remarkable. My 2014-build computer digests it and spits it out more easily than older 2K vision.
