BMPCC6K Problem: Multicolored Rectangle Artifacts : ALL BRAW

PostSat Mar 18, 2023 7:36 pm

Hello,

I've recently purchased a BMPCC 6K, along with a Samsung T7 Shield.

When recording in any & all compression ratios of BRAW in 6K 50fps & 24fps - (180deg), the recordings have these various colored rectangular artifacts, rapidly appearing throughout the video.

I've spent about 2 days troubleshooting this issue to no succession by doing the following:
1. Moving T7 Shield to different position (initially was mounted on the side, now mounted horizontally above body)
2. Purchasing USB-C ver 3.2 @ 10GBPS
3. Removing HDMI connected Camera Monitor (HDMI removed from Cam Body)
4. Removing XLR cable from Cam Body

I've tried another Media device -- a SanDisk Extreme 128gb SD Card and Recorded successfully at BRAW 6K 24FPS @ 12:1 ratio. This was successful in removing colored artifacts.

I'm suspecting that the artifacts are caused by either of the following:
1. Samsung T7 Shield 1TB is defective
2. USB-C Port is not delivering enough power to the SSD?
3. Camera is overheating
4. Camera is defective

Current timeline:
I have a replacement Samsung T7 Shield in shipment to me today. Im anticipating that the replacement will fix and end the issue im having, but we will see.

I've attached the screenshot here to show you the artifacts.

Please let me know your thoughts on this matter.

I had a similar issue only one time and it took a small fraction of a second only. And I got it using a trustworthy Angelbird card.

I do not assume that it was the result of the camera overheating because it snowed a little bit when I got this issue.

I use Samsung T7 Shield 2TB and I have not encountered anything like this but I use this SSD drive too little to be sure that it never happens.

So in my case I think that it is related to the camera itself, maybe something than can be fixed with firmware.

Interestingly, I use Canon EOS R with Atomos Ninja V+ and I got a similar issue too. I started to think that maybe the camera catches some signal produced by my smartphone or something.

Generally I do not rely too much on my BMPCC 6K G2, but luckily I use it for fun and can afford losing some footage.

It is very likely the USB-C cable, the USB-C drive or a combination of both. This artifacts look like a typical data transfer problem. A flaky USB-C port on your camera could also be the reason but afaik this would more likely freeze the T7 and/or the camera temporarily.

You did a very good job at troubleshooting in a methodical way.

I would also try to supply the T7 Shield with its own separate power just to make sure this isn't the issue.
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

Well, I get the very same issue when I do not use any SSD disk. I get it when I use a CFast card.
So I doubt that it is related to the cable.

Can you spot the difference?
And did you verify that your error was already in the recording on the card or that it happend during the transfer from the card to your computer?
