Questions regarding URSA Broadcast G2

PostThu Mar 30, 2023 11:06 am

Hi community,

I've got a few questions regarding the URSA Broadcast G2, which I can't answer myself, as I don't own the camera and our local rental houses don't have it.

1.
Does it have a Super16 recording mode in BRAW? It's not mentioned in the tech specs PDF, but the other URSAs and even Pockets have it.

2. In the tech specs PDF its mentioned that "URSA Mini Shoulder Pad" & "URSA Mini top handle & rubber stopper" are included. This is not the case with the other two URSAs.

3. Is there an option in the menu to change "Gain" to "ISO" in the OSD?

4. It's the same sensor as in the Pocket 6K (G2 / Pro) – but is there any improvement to the image because of the superiour processing power of the URSA?

5. Am I correct, that the URSA Broadcast G2 features the same internal NDs as the URSA mini Pros? I heard so many complaints about the Pocket 6K Pro's internal NDs in regards to color shift, so I want to be sure it's not them inside the UBG2.

Thanks so much in advance!
Jannik

Question 2: Yes those parts are included. It is ready to accept the EVF option.
Question 3: No, Gain only.

I'm not familiar with any Super16 options in the UI.

Also, a note on question 2. The camera packages now include all the necessary hardware but there was a few months long period where they were missing a single part: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... a_evf.html

Most likely you'll have all the parts you need but it's possible to still one that was shipped before they fixed this issue.

There are no Super16mm Mode in Braw. You can use a 2,6k Crop to scale down to a FullHDRecording but only in ProRes&H265. Sensorcrop in Braw is coupled to the recording resolution(6k,5,7k,4k,3,7kAmorph,FullHD).
to 4: I think there are no advantages in the processing over Pocket 6kpro.
to ND Filter: the body is the same as the URSA mini pro G2 so the ND should be the same.

Thanks a lot Mike! Useful information for me.
I guess for Super16 I would then choose the BRAW 4K mode, which should have a diagonal around 17.66mm. Still requires cropping in post, but less then full sensor size/res.

Thanks! Very informative.
It's sad that the G2 doesn't offer a S16 recording mode.

IIRC the rule of thumb for all BMD cameras is that BRAW is always a 1:1 of the sensor area to the resolution you're recording at.

I think only the UMP12K is an exception.
