Ursa 12k Gyro Data?

PostThu May 04, 2023 10:36 pm

Good Day,
Just joining this forum…

Is it possible for the Ursa Mini Pro 12k, to get an updated firmware so it can have Gyro Data stabilization information in it?

I have sent numerous e-mails to Blackmagic support, and they recommended that I post this in the BMD forums.

I'd assume it's not possible, or they'd have done it by now.
You can add a smartphone with an app like GFRecorder (iPhone) or an IMU recorder to your camera rig and use such data with Gyroflow (free).
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

As per the URSA Manual:
Motion Sensor Calibration
To calibrate the horizon meter on URSA Mini Pro 12K models, place your camera on a surface you know is level and tap the ‘calibrate motion sensor’ button. It is essential that you keep the camera stable during calibration. The process takes approximately five seconds to complete.

So the UMP12K and UMP12KOLPF both have the Gyro for Motion Sensor Calibration similar to the Pockets. This in the Pockets lead to Gyro Stabilization Update. I'd say give Blackmagic time to implement this into the UMP12K models. And, it likely will be very useful with LED Walls and Virtual Production in the future. So I bet Blackmagic is working on making it most useful for that on the professional level first before releasing any firmware updates.

Well, I'd like to be as optimistic as you are. Unfortunately, not every IMU is delivering data for all 6 kinds of motion.
And then, why not give it to the new flagship?
But, yes, let's dream: I would dream about full integration of gyro data with Fusion for 3D compositing!

Re: Ursa 12k Gyro Data? BMD Rep/Tech

PostMon May 08, 2023 4:03 pm

Can I have a BMD Rep/Tech please give me some info on this topic?

I was told over and over again, to create an account on the BMD forum and post whatever I needed answered that the BMD support email team couldn’t.

I need a definite answer to this Gyro data Ursa 12k question….

Is it possible to get an updated firmware to the Ursa 12k, so we can have Gyro data info stored in the metadata, so in post we can utilize that?

If it’s not possible, just let me know if it’s not possible.
But if it is possible, I need BMD to get on it immediately please & provide us the update.

Just to bump this thread - I’d also love to know if it’s on the agenda.

BMD lack of communication doesn't give me any hope of anything happening.

I tried.

This is a feature I'd like too.

It's strange because BMD don't make a huge habit of communicating on these forums and they definitely 100% never talk about future plans.

So coming onto this forum and asking for BMD to say if they're going to do something in the future will always be met with zero response. It doesn't mean they aren't reading it, planning it and about to ship it. But they won't tell you till it's happening.

It's strange that the service people would say to come on here and ask.

If it's a feature request? Sure. This is a great place for that. BMD do read all of the posts here.

But to ask for feedback about a specific future feature? You're never going to get an answer.
