Blackmagic Box camera coming soon?

PostMon Oct 02, 2023 10:13 pm

Interesting:

Although it's about the EOS m, half way through the video he talks about a BMD version.

*I'm not saying this is what I want BMD to create as their next camera, but it's interesting to see that people take things into their own hands when requests seemingly fall on deaf ears.

Lots of people have been doing similar.

Here’s an E mount version of some pocket cameras.

BMD had a change with this new Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6k full frame's release to finally adopt a box form factor camera. The fact that they didn't really do it for this, I doubt it's going to happen anytime soon. I don't think it is a priority for them. Though, it would be outstanding to get a camera like that with DR of a bit more than 13 stops but with a box form factor.

They just did, but most of people not see it :-)
Studio G2 is what most of people want for box cam
Smaller and lighter than ever, record in braw uhd from usb-c, 13 stop of dr, sei and hdmi out, 4/3 sensor, 12v in, completely removable from sdi and hdmi. For 995$

Like in past when they did micro cam, i think they sold a bit of cubic cam, but not enough to develop too much.

Developing a small box with big sensor mean to deal with a lots of heat, and please don’t tell me brand xxx do it without problems, I just used boxed cam from four main brands, they HAD problems of heat…
if you work on heat place (not so much to me, here in Italy we deal only max 40 degree Celsius, I wasn’t in the death’s desert) you should choose well.

this summer I should use two of them for a work where someone decide to use xxx brand and half of time I see recording error or shutdown for too much heat, and my pk6k that I had like cam C work like a charm (heat but never stopped), but mine is not a brand that producer want to show to our clients …

It was funny be cause my producer choose xxx brand and told to our client that he prefer them for their reliability.

We all know of the experiences of some whose BMD cameras do fail suddenly or gradually during and after warranty yet many of us are still going strong with older BMD cameras. “One bad apple can spoil the barrel” but still I’m getting tired of producers recommending well-known brand xxx due more to the intense marketing than perfection of the camera. It’s been said before that with BMD’s prices, on a very critical shoot, it’s less costly to bring an extra BMD camera to ensure reliability (redundancy) than rely on a single xxx.

Exactly, at the end of day, my cam C (p6k g1) save the day ;-)

It sounded like sourcing parts and components was a big issue after Covid. Maybe they decided to go ahead and put out the 6K full frame in the mean time instead of waiting a year or two for some new form factor.

No one wants the Studio G2 as their 'cinema' box camera. It's a terrible design for that use and not it's intended use. Some people bought the micro studio and tried to adapt it but thats a very small number of people.
Anyway, which cameras all had heat issues?
