Yes, you can easily download older versions of the firmware from the Blackmagic support site.

You can jump between firmware releases without any issues.

I don't think the sound is really broken if you treat it correctly.

Here's the audio track from a wireless lav into the cheapest juiced link model, the DS214, and then directly into the BMCC. I applied an EQ in post to bring up the bass and get rid of the tinniness. BMCC EF firmware 1.3.

Yes, did it myself. Just de-install your blackmagic camera software and then install version 1.2, connect the BMC as usual and it will "update" to v1.2.

EDIT: oh, seems I had an old version in my cache, has been answered ages before

After all of this time, we still don't have a proper fix for the audio. PLEASE FIX THE AUDIO ON THE BMCC, or at least give us a direct answer as to whether your are working specifically on this problem and a time frame please!

Clearly BM has a policy of not responding to our pleas like the one above. Too bad, but it's a reality.

Forget Mic input, it may or may not automatically flip to Line level during recording; and if it flips, there's no indication (sound meters, anyone? no?) but the audio will be lost.

The way I deal with BMCC sound a the moment: forget Mic input. Always use Line input. Feed it with line-level signal (whether balanced or unbalanced, don't matter much.)

Note: there's another caveat. Only +2dB Line level from professional equipment will do. Line out from consumer/prosumer equipment will NOT suffice as volume will be too low. (please don't shoot the messenger...)

I don't yet own a BMCC but coming from the DSLR world, I must stay that the poor audio monitoring features of the BMCC is one of the factors which prevents me from purchasing a BM camera. BM is not a software company and so is not Canon but one of first things the Magic Lantern team added to the Canon DSLR was indeed on-screen audio meters. If BM can't improve the software features in time with demand, they should open the software up for others to contribute.

Ever so quietly watching the forums for the glorious day the update arrives, you'll have my gratitude :)

I think it's safe to say that the BMCC has been forgotten - I realise that sounds both cynical and final but based on BMD's behaviour I think it's a reasonable statement.

The only question now is, should you buy their new 4k camera ? Despite everything that's happened I suspect I will :( .

It's incredible that BM haven't fixed this yet. Sure there's a workaround which is borderline acceptable but it's a serious issue that BM are being tight lipped about.

BM may I remind you yet again that being tight lipped about your roadmap is fine. Being stubborn and completely non-transparent about fixing an issue is unacceptable and terrible customer service. I feel held to ransom as there isn't an alternative in the market yet. You will lose a very large chunk and possibly the future of your camera business when the competition catches up. That's a real shame as you are a 10/10 company for innovation.

Wow.... its been half a year since I started this thread and a year since delivery of the camera. Everyone said, be patient, it'll be here- especially Grant Petty and Tony Rivera.

I wonder what constitutes patience, at this point. Is that another 1/60th of my life ? Another 5 years?

Quite frankly Black Magic and its owner and employees are no longer believable. The Company has failed me on its promise for over a year.

Anyone buying the 4K camera on the promise of additions to what it currently has--- good luck !! Because it is just a crapshoot as to whether Black Magic can deliver what was promised.

Built-in mic sound on BMCC/BMPCC is worse than any other camera, including the cheapest toy ones.

However, the external mic feed produces good results.

Yet it's a crapshoot since there's no audio meters still (again, even very cheap camcorders have this basic feature.... since 1980s...)

And still no "media remaining" indicator. BTW I now understand why not. BMPCC in particular starts freaking out and reportsng Card Full very early - sometimes 8GB early - and inconsistently, even with same card. If there was a media counter, users would easily see the operation is chaotic.

Having said that, both RAW and ProRes images are absolutely top notch. And the price is deliciously low.

So it's a mixed bag. We all make decisions accordingly.

Why would BM cut it own balls by not providing or adding basic, cheap-to-make standard features, is beyond me and many other users. Given BM's record, I'm with Chris on this - don't hold your breath on anything. Test, retest, and hope things won't change with the next firmware release (which they frequently do, sometimes for the worse, like audio EQ...)
