with all my respect Christine, I don't feel any respect to people who are washing our brains with "updates" with nothing in it. some phrases like "some amount" or "getting better", don't work really.
nothing what we could touch, nothing what we could count. 7 months already and nobody knows, when exactly they will receive their orders. weeks, months, years. who knows.

also, i want to say thanks to those users who got some pieces and published information - "shipped/when/where/seller". they provided a piece of the picture "what's going on with the shipping".

and probably i'm a very peaceful and respectful russian (2 temporary bans, permanent ban ip for very political phrases), because usually russians when they are really tired or something they do stuff like that (second part of the video)
)))...

if somebody didn't see that video yet, enjoy...))... in a old car some grandpa, the guy in Mercedes is a governor, the guy at Audi Q7, some man who was driving by and decided to stop and help to grandpa, recorded by some random people.

But, how about as a sign of good faith BMD could allow me to download the Resolve software so I could at least be learning that software while I wait for the camera? I mean, I have already paid the money and the software is downloadable, so why not? I realize that I could still cancel my order, but let's be honest. I have already made my leap of faith and paid for the camera upfront. What say you, Grant?

You know already that this will not gonna happen, but you can download the Lite version and start working with that. Davinci Resolve is a very sophisticated color correction program, and you you'll need some time to get familiar with it. By the time you're about to get more familiar most probably your camera with the full version of Resolve will be available.

My friend got his camera from ScandinavianPhoto here in Sweden a while ago, he was very happy.

I don't understand why people are so angry, yes Blackmagic overestimated their capacity to produce enough cameras when they announced it but for us that have used Blackmagic gear for a long time this is common Blackmagic workings. The ATEM 2M/E panel for example took a year or something after release before it was actually delivered. The Hyperdeck Studio Pro still hasn't arrived. The ATEM took about 1 year to release the SuperSource the promised from day 1. The Decklink cards have multiple times been announced with functionality that has been removed towards launch. The Hyperdeck still has buttons that doesn't do anything.

This doesn't translate into a free card of permanent hating and bashing. The cameras will arrive sometime but exactly when is unknown. In the meantime, do something else or cancel the preorder. The harsh debate in this forum is painful to read when people aren't keeping to the thread and discussing and instead hating.

With this camera and it's price, Black Magic has entered a new market, I would say the "enthusiast" market for no better word. We have all been suffering trying to shoot indie films (or weddings, or whatever) on DSLRs and getting inferior quality. We have been promised a $3,000 RAW camera for about 6 years now (by other companies). This is a group that is also very passionate as well as impatient!

I will also say that BM is being vague with their information. You can look at their announcements and say that they have given a lot of technical information (probably more than you would ever hear from Canon or Sony). But, the fact is that nobody cares about dust on the sensor or any of that stuff. All they want to know is, when will I get my camera! It's pretty simple. People keep asking for numbers of units being shipped so they can estimate when the camera will arrive. BM gives a lot of information, but will not give out numbers of units. I would guess that it's partially a business secret type of thing and also not wanting to set an expectation and then make people even more angry. The retailers are also being stingy by not telling people what number they are on the waiting list.

That's my opinion anyway!

I initially pre-ordered the EF version through Adorama in September 2012, then after 2 months, decided to cancel my order. I went with a small retailer instead.

My thought process/gut feeling was that they may not have such a backlog of orders like BH and Adorama.

I placed my order mid-Jan 2013, and the retailer literally just told me to come in and pick up my BMCC (this is a month after I put my order in).

What I initially thought was risky step really paid off!

I know it's a little off topic but I wanted to ask Christine about the infinity issues people are having with some lenses. What is the deal here exactly? Is the mount faulty?

My concern is mostly because of http://www.dslrnewsshooter.com/2013/02/ ... us-issues/

I am concerned because I don't use L glass, only Nikon AI-s and Leica R lenses and these use adaptors which seem to have infinity problems too.

Well, all of the EF pre-orders, I presume. According to the Adorama shipping update thread, Adorama is currently shipping orders from January.

And, I'll add: Why others (in the U.S.) who are waiting (Marc, why w8 on your retailier?) have not ordered from Adorama by now is a mystery to me. I placed an order with them in late January even though I have a pre-order from September at B&H. I fully expect the Adorama order to be fulfilled sooner. Adorama does not charge until they ship, as I understand it.

This post tells me nothing. I cannot describe my frustration in waiting 5 months for a camera I have yet to receive only to be told nothing in this post. I think the black magic customers deserve some actual dates as to when we can expect our cameras.

Ruben, there is already a thread in the forum about this.

Thread was just the tokina 11-16mm, now there appears to be issues with other lenses as well.

Just walked up to B&H (for whoever ordered there) and the customer service rep. told me they are up to June in shipping out orders. Don't know how accurate that is but I ordered mine early September. Hope it's true though.....just shot alot of commercials and hoped to use the BMCC.

I'm waiting on my June pre-order and my gigs are stacking up FAST... Just got this from B&H via Live Chat:

Nathan Z: We wish we would know, I am not trying to keep any information from you, we are being kept in the dark from the manufacturer as well.
Nathan Z: We try to provide accurate information when we have it available, we share it with our clients.
Nathan Z: Unfortunately, it's not the case here.
Nathan Z: We understand the frustration of waiting for a camera that long, we are sincere with our apology.

As soon as it ships I'll let you know...

Dear Blackmagic,

When we placed the preorder last november for the MFT version, we did it because it said that it would start shipping the 31st of december.
I understand that there was a sensor problem and that needed to be fixed.
But what I don't understand is that you have not set a new launch/shipping date.
Now I just hear vague updates "coming soon", like a bad filmposter.

Sorry...I just don't understand why you are not able to tell us when you will start shipping the MFT versions, because if it will start in the summer or later, that is to late for us and we need to cancel our preorder and that's not really what we want to do because we love your products and the stuff we have seen from the blackmagic cinema camera.

Please give us some more insight cause this is not enough for us MFT users,

Your dear customer,

Perry and many others ;)

FTFY.
There's people who have been waiting for a lot longer than you. You're not the only one that wants their camera.
No amount of whining for more info and a camera in your hand will get you your camera any faster.
We're at the mercy of the sensor supplier here and we can't do anything except wait.

All I ask for is them letting us know when they expect to start shipping so that we can make up our mind if we would cancel our order or not, I don't see how this is whining, just just asking for a little more info needed for us to decide what to do.

At least you know your EF is in the shipping proces.
I wasn't saying I should get mine before the other EF preorders got theirs, that would be whining.

After ordering from Vistek-Toronto on the first day of NAB12, within hours of the camera being announced, we took delivery of our BMCC today. we were half way up to our lake place when we got the call — turned around and went back.

I was told that this was one of four cameras Vistek received — for the country.

The rep at the store I ordered from sent an update saying that they're expecting MFT mount models in March/April. I'm hoping early March, because if it's early in March I'll be able to use it for a school project that we're starting pre-production on in a week or so.

Awesome Roland,

Awesome news! Enjoy this moment! :D
I bought ssd's from Kinston "HyperX 3k" of 240 GB

Not sure that will work alright, since I don't own a Blackmagic, but I read that the cheaper Kingstons SSDnow's were working as well. I think that was version 2 or 3.

It's kind of ironic that as soon as many people got their cameras, it came out not as good as it planned to be.

Flange distance and Dead pixels are some serious technical problems out there...

I personally think it's a small price to pay for a RAW 12-Bit 2K Cinema Camera.

It's actually a big price if you can't use this camera to full potential during production.

It's like using a bicycle without a brake, and to slow down using your legs. (in other words, always searching for solution on a camera that intend to focus on infinity.)

Have not seen the Dead Pixel issue on ours.

And infinity focus issue at wide open aperture at full wide on some lens is certainly not even close to giving away all that comes with this camera.

First, there are plenty of lenses that that work fine.
Second, lens like our Tokina that currently cannot infinity focus a 11mm/2.8, can infinity focus at 11mm/more stopped down apertures and 12-13mm at open iris settings.
Third, unless you purposely WANT the background thrown out of focus for very shallow depth of field, or are at wide mm at shooting at night, you would not want to work off the sweet spot of a zoom which is rarely at wide open aperture.
Third, pretty sure that BM is going to fix the infinity focus issue.

As a small shop, to get all that the BMCC gives me with ownership, I could only rent before if the budget allowed. Now I can provide clients with some top notch footage and underbid my competition because I don't have to rent and Epic or an Alexa.

Now I can bid as if we were using our XLH1/XDRFlash or XHG1/NanoFlash and get 13 stops latitude/12bit Raw with basic Resolve color grading.

Would I give that up for some lenses not infinity focusing at wide open iris on the wide end of the zoom? NO WAY!

Chances are they will have one as well. So will it be a race to the bottom?

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore the images coming from the BMCC, but comparing it to an Alexa? Come on.

Just for the record: I saw the BMC listed as "immediately available" on the website of an official reseller in Cologne/Germany and of course ordered it.

Guess what... you name it. :-(

There's an Adorama thread, latest anyone has gotten one is ordered January 4th. So if you haven't gotten the one you ordered in November i'd contact Adorama. Unless you pre-ordered the MFT; in which case they have not been shipped.

Whatsup with The Netherlands BMC, any news why rental houses receive units, while retailers don't?
