Many people ask on facebook, if you really have it in stock?
they respond: In stock
the store will be a good friend of mr. Grant?

So an Italian retailer is the first to have it stock? BMD you never continue to surprise me... and not in a good way:)

In all seriousness congrats to all of you in Italy!

It's good we're seeing stock!

The situation right now is exactly the same as at IBC.
We released some cameras into the market pre-IBC with 7x units being delivered to beta-testers and all the remainder of this production batch going to IBC. Those cameras remaining after IBC were allocated to Blackmagic sales teams to enable demonstrations at the 40+ events we will cover in the next 2-months and the extra units were released to some Distribution partners to enable them to demonstrate at the reseller events in their countries. No resellers have been supplied sale or demo cameras at this stage.

The beta-testers helped us to sign-off the product as finished and therefore move into mass production. As we went into production, we were let down by some component suppliers which has effectively meant no further production has happened. Having received components, we started manufacturing but our own QC was failing most of the cameras. After a long process we discovered the issue was the glass that was being used to protect the sensor. I can completely understand your frustration with this! We are receiving emails and update requests every day from the reseller channel.

Wow. So none have been made under 'mass production' other than those that went to testers or went out as Demo units? That's a little scary.

The phantom camera... oh wait that already exists - maybe I'll rent one :D

There is at least one (1) end user in the US (in the state of TN) who has a BMCC-EF. Whether it was originally obtained through strictly "normal" retail channels I don't know.

One of the biggest German retailers Marcotec said to me upon order I won't get mine before Q1 2013. Anything before is highly unlikely.

I don't care because Canon will need at least 5 years before they come up with something similar!!!!

if canon needed to product a full frame 4k raw camera (for 6-8 grants for example) that camera would be in the stores already. it's the marketing i suppose. who will upgrade a camera like this? and when? 7-8 years?
i believe canon have some prototypes. they just need a reason to announce them.

Canon it seems is after making the most money, not the best tool. Yet their success proves them right, they did not fail with any single one item they launched. All of them hit the expected goals.

The current strategy seems to be to hold back innovation and slowly get everyone to upgrade in small increments, not taking major risks.

Canon does not offer any RAW solution, RED does it since 2009. I think they will play the slow game as long as possible (eg. as long as Nikon and Sony do not offer RAW).

Hopefully B&H knows something we don't, but the change could simply be the result of a B&H employee returning from their religious holiday and working their way through the l-o-n-g list of email messages in their in-box.

If they saw the "now shipping" messages from several weeks ago, they might have changed the B&H website based on that old news. If so, expect it to change to back-ordered status once they get to Grant's email about the sensor assembly disaster.

I very much hope I'm wrong about the above, and I hope B&H knows which way is up, but just saying. ;-)

the news that B&H changed the shipping status. I was apparently late. My browser didn't show the other responses. I would like to think that B&H would have information before we would get an official announcement. as wishful as that thinking may be.

I suspect that B&H haven't had any new news and are just changing their notices to something they have decided suits the status better. 2-4 weeks in my experience is normally a way if saying we have no stock and this is how much time a fresh order from distributer/manufacturer generally takes.

BMDs silence suggests either no real news or bad news. Progressing all the way to shipping I suspect is something they would shout about.

Without BMD or B&H (possibly another retailer) saying something about this or similar changes (pref BMD and the relevant retailer if the reasons other than retailers reasons) this is could mean most things over the spectrum of possible results,

In blockbuster narrator voice:

Legends say... that in a time of happiness and prosperity, a global company called Blackmagic Design once shipped their products to customers.

Then... at a time of extreme pressure, things went horribly wrong...

Hundreds of years later, the once fabled Cinema Camera has been rumoured to exist.

One man has set out to find it among the lost cities of the ancient Australian civilisation.

In the afterglow of an Australian sunset, he found a depiction of the camera among rock paintings in the ranges west of Sydney, a place honoured by some and revered by many; but the discovery was somewhat overshadowed by the sudden appearance of a drop bear who descended upon the explorer.....

Wrestling the drop bear into submission, he pulled out his pistol and put the bear down.

After checking the drop bear was dead, he put away his gun and looked up. There was a man, ragged and dirty. An old man. A man that had the look of many tough years on him.

"Who are you?" Quin shouted to the man across street. It was laden with dust and dirt and ancient vehicles were scattered here and there, tires deflated and windows smashed. He waited for an answer but there was no reply.

Then the man spoke, "Are you looking for the Cinema Camera?"

"Yes. Who are you?" Quin replied.

The man continued staring across the street at him, then he replied.

"I'm a descendant of John Brawley."

"My name is Max"....from his shirt pocket he retrieved a sparkler and proceeded to light it....."Follow me" he said.

They made their way down the steep, rocky track of a seemingly bottomless ravine with the sparkler illuminating their footsteps.

"Where did this seemingly bottomless ravine come from?" said Quin in surprise. They had passed from the dusty and deserted street through a broken door and down into the cellar of the old camera store he came out from.

Max looked at him and smiled. "It was dug out over 50 years ago. Government classified facility right under our noses. They're all gone of course. Left in the Great Exodus."

Quin looked down in wonder as they descended deeper into the darkness.

The light of the sparkler showed layers of strata in the rock walls surrounding them. Quin caught glimpses of what appeared to be fossilized remains of DSLRs, rigs, and the letters "RE..."

As they went deeper, there was a crackling and crunching underfoot, and occasionally a long strip of something would trail from his ankles before disintegrating into dust. "What is all this?" asked Quin.

"It used to be called... film." said Max.

The trail flattened out and at last they reached a large metal door. To Quin's surprise, lights above the door flickered to life. Max swiped a hand over a panel on the side of the door and it opened loudly.

Quin walked in with caution then Max stepped in after him. "Where is the power coming from?" asked Quin.

"The government left massive generators with enough fuel to last decades," replied Max.

As the dust settled Quin's attention was drawn toward a strange device standing upon a pillar shaped podium. He stared in amazement before asking the inevitable question.

"Is that a time machine?"

Max nodded in affirmation.

Next, Quin's gaze was drawn to a large jar of jelly beans positioned next to the time machine.

Max read Quin's thoughts. "We've never been able to find the correct startup sequence for the time machine.....because no one has been able to guess, within .1%, just how many jelly beans there are in the jar.....See, it says in the user guide this information must be known before the time machine can be operated"

Quin quickly glanced at the user guide which Max held out to him.....and then he had a revelation, a recall of memory. "There is a way", said Quin. He was of course referring to an ancient documentary featuring a mathematician known as Marcus du Sautoy.

Quin smiled....."And what is the purpose of the time machine?"

"To return to a moment in time and remove an obstacle so as to enable a much awaited proclamation by Grant Petty the Great", Max responded.

"But they still say it is impossible to go back in time?" asked Quin

"They also once said you could not buy a 2.5K RAW Cinema Camera with 13 stops of dynamic range for $3000"

Quin was a believer and nodded to Max. "We need a crowd" he said with a dusty grin.

I'm sure Blackmagic is doing everything they can to get the camera out. Hopefully it won't be long now. I can understand the need for information and the lack of it can be frustrating. But I don't see how all the complaining will help. That will probably just increase the stress on them. Let us instead encourage them and let them know we're on their side. They have come up with a camera we all would love to have. This is their first camera so of course thing might be a little bumpy now. Whatever they do now I'm sure it's whatever they can do to get the camera out to us.

No moaning won't encourage them to release it sooner... but it might get them to actually TALK to us. Also, being all new age, 'let's encourage them and tell them we're on their side' won't help AT ALL either. And "a little bumpy"... I would hate to know what classifies as a tornado in your world:)

PostMon Oct 08, 2012 7:43 pm

Is there anyone who thinks that this camera will be released this year? They still haven't solved the part issue, and when/if they finally do, it will take a few months before it reaches re-sellers. Taking into consideration we're going into the holidays, and traditionally work comes to a complete standstill at that time, it's very easy to assume that at Q1 2013 is the goal.

If this concept camera gets mass produced, it's likely going to be a Jan/Feb release for those that ordered back in April (then who knows what will happen at NAB).

That's the best case scenario that I can imagine. I also think it's very likely that we'll hear that "good news, we improved the BMC!" and then this updated internals unit will get a 2013 release date. Could be spun with a "we listened to our customers" reasoning, while upping the price and keeping the pre-order spots.
