First time using Dji RS4 Pro, it’s another learning curve.

I don’t know how to underexpose terrace’s view, it’d have looked much better.

Edit:

I used power windows and tracker. I managed to get underexpose exteriors.

Hey everyone,

Just thought I would share my cinematography reel here as 99% of it was made with Blackmagic Cameras:

This reel includes both commissioned and personal work and features a mix of documentary, commercial and travel content.
These are the shots that I am most proud of whether it is for their composition, colour or movement.

As always I feel very lucky to have been involved in so many different projects around the world with amazing people and brands.

Hope you enjoy this selection and let me know if you have a favourite shot :).

Let me know if you have any questions :).

Cheers,
Flo

Dude! Beautiful! Really lovely images. You inspire me to travel more. However, I’d definitely want to travel with the bigger URSA Mini Pro. How much was that primarily the Pocket cameras? Would hiking to some of those spots be worth lugging an URSA Cine with Vespid Primes? Or, maybe the new DZOFilm Arles Primes? Either way, light and nimble better?

It’s a great reel! Congratulations!

Thanks so much for the positive feedback mate!!

90% is the Pockets, I much prefer them for traveling/outdoor. I did take the Ursa on some mountain spots especially with a car but I would always prefer the BMPCC6K for hiking etc. The 6K Pro is the best imo and I always use Canon Zoom lenses for speed and a light setup too.
I would only use the Ursa instead if the sole purpose of traveling was to capture the location and you could plan around that. When I went to Iceland for example I could have had the Ursa 12K instead because you can drive so close to the main locations and it's safe too :)

For folk who have interest in aviation, here is a link to a presentation I shot for airshow display pilot Bob Grimstead. The camera was the blended Ursa Mini Pro made from two broken cameras.

It has an inbuilt Formatt IRND filter/contrast filter stack so behaves more like a camera with a native ISO of about 320. I therefore had to light the interview and lighting is not my strong suite.

I did the initial assembly with some stills and motion clips supplied by Bob, re-edited with his oversight and the final edit was undertaken by Gavan O'Sullivan of Insight Films.

For anyone with experience flying a light plane or glider, the content of that video is very interesting.

There’s quite a lot of information on the internet about the Fournier RF-4D motor glider.

Hello all, a new musical video clip for you. French Disco this time. You can put the Subtitles on to follow the French lyrics if you'd like. Happy Listening. :)

How does watching this help me to improve my skill at Cinematography using a Blackmagic camera?

If I need inspiration from a non-Blackmagic camera movie, I’ll rent one that won an Academy award.

I suggest that you read the first post on this thread regarding the rules of posting to it. This is a forum for users of Blackmagic cameras that want to improve their experience with them.

@dondidnod, I'm so sorry, I completely overlooked that this thread was for "I shot this on my BMCC" only, so I would like to present my apologies.

The reason I've been posting here is further to the following message:

So I wont be posting in this thread any longer. Sorry again. Is it still ok to post to my own thread "Re: Sharing Newbie's music video clips for advice"?
Thank you @dondidnod

Let’s correct this. This is a forum for Blackmagic cameras and related products and this particular thread is for sharing and showcasing our work done with those camera. And as the original poster had, the objective is to keep all of what we shot in a single thread so that we don’t have them splattered all over this forum. When I saw your original post, it was my impression that you were, as a newbie, sharing your pictures taken on a BMD camera to showcase, share technique, or get feedback. Hence I responded with the link to where this thread is. I was not aware or was there any mention that it was taken using some other camera. So, to be clear, read the original poster of this thread as the intended use of Official “Look what I shot” before posting it here. Second, no one can stop you from starting a new post about your pictures but please find the right category for it. If it has very little, or nothing to do with Blackmagic products then (1) you can post it but it probably won’t get much eyeballs as this is not the crowd for it and (2) maybe it should go under the “Other Topic” category.

For the first time I didn’t use color chart so I train my eyes to get colors as realistic as possible. Using ColorSlice was fun along with power windows. Maybe WB is off in some shots?

Trying something new: https://www.instagram.com/p/C_HYiTpsVAa ... 13Z3Y5Nms1

Shooting the Pocket 6K Pro in vertical orientation. Shot with the DZOFilm Vespid 16mm and Pictor 20-55mm. Sound recorded straight into camera via Sennheiser 416 on boom pole.

Edited and graded in DaVinci Resolve. Used the Film Look Creator.

I've been having fun testing the low-light limits of the original 1080p Pocket Cinema Camera and the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera. Earlier this summer I got the new Laowa T1 cine primes for Micro Four Thirds (18mm and 25mm), and I shot this short clip of a (very energetic) jazz singer a couple of weeks ago using the 18mm on the OG Pocket, handheld with a shoulder brace for stabilization.

Shot in 6k open gate and scaled down to 4k HDR (YouTube Pro account needed I think). Davinci Film Look Creator and a couple of tweaks to levels and thats it.

First time really using the Cinema 6k FF so….

Feel free to rip it apart :D

A friend of mine said that I need to improve my color grading. I know drone’s clips are not so accurate because they were shot in different occasions and there are not true Log footage. What matters to me is the interiors; if you spot any flaw, please let me know, I’d appreciate your help and comments.

I think there too much contrast and lack saturation to start with. Watch Oleg Ustimenko work above for how he has his contrast and sat for ideas on adjustments.

I think there too much contrast and lack saturation to start with. Watch Oleg Ustimenko work above for how he has his contrast and sat for ideas on adjustments.

Ellory, thank you for your constructive comment! I’ll keep that in mind and watch more videos on color grading.

Oleg’s work is pro, nicely done!

It's not an apples to apples comparison to Oleg's video, and shouldn't be.

The root flaw with the interior shots is highlight clipping due to overexposure. The shots otherwise show lots of promising potential. A gram of prevention when shooting is worth a kilo of cure in post. Lens aperture, camera shutter speed or ND filtration when shooting. Use the WFM or histogram when shooting.
By leaving yourself some exposure latitude when shooting, you have better options for adjusting it later in post.

Tom, I appreciate your honest comment. Since I don’t have external lights to balance luminance inside and outside, I tend to set my exposure to interiors rather than exteriors, hence highlights in exteriors clip. I tried several methods to bring highlights lower using power windows but I always get unpleasant results. If you check 1m16s, in that shot I exposed to exteriors and in-post I increased exposure of the interior. You’ll notice it’s being contrasty.

I'd say that most of the blown out exteriors on interior shots are forgivable. However, there are a bunch of straight exterior shots that clip unnecessarily. The drone shots could use a little contrast and maybe some saturation to give little pop, they're a little washed out as is.

How are you treating your power windows? Using the HDR wheels global exposure tool is akin to using the raw tab and will likely give better results than the primaries or curves when trying to reign in overexposure.

Good Luck

Definitely not apples to apples or even close, but you can learn from looking at good work to get ideas.
The suggestions for Omar on how to make his attached video look better is after the fact. Yes, your suggestions on camera settings are very helpful for the next shot.

Like I thought it would help - contrast and saturation. :)

I don’t think looking at what I’ve made would really help Omar, since these kinds of shoots exist in such a different context. I wasn’t interested in getting a ‘realistic’ color grade, I deliberately tinted the shots with white-ish walls green, Omar couldn’t do that, since that isn’t the point of his productions. Under his circumstances, I would probably not be able to make a very engaging video. Frankly I think most of this looks fine, even if the windows are clipping, since the point of these videos is to sell houses. If you make these kinds of videos, and your client is happy? That’s probably the most you can do. You could spend about 15 minutes extra in the color tab of resolve and get the contrast and color balance a bit closer between the Acam and drone.

Personally I don’t like the framing of a lot of these shots Omar, either get the camera and gimbal higher and get the tilt angle down, or the reverse: get the camera lower, and angle up. I feel like so much of the compositions have empty negative space with their current camera height (i assume slightly under eye height?) and angle (just completely forward facing?)

Howard / Ellory. I appreciate your input so much. I'll take your notes in mind for future projects. Moreover, I will redo the color grading same project and post the results.

Howard, I can't recall if I have used HDR wheels for this project, however, I'll try them.

Thank you!

Oleg, I'm sure no one has meant to compare my work to yours, apple to apple, they just wanted to draw my attention to the great job on your color grading.

I'm my own client and critic, I'd never offer imperfect work to anyone

Framing note is spot on, I should take care of framing next time. I'll angle up or down, or both depending on the scene next time. Maybe shoot at different focal lengths instead of 12mm all the way.

Many thanks!!

For what interest may suit some folk, here is a link to some coverage of the annual fly-in by the Sport Aircraft Builders Club at Serpentine Airfield Western Australia. It is of rather mundane quality.

Cameras - URSA Mini Pro with Tokina 17-35mm zoom and Ursa Mini 4.6K with Sigma 50-500mm zoom with both cameras containing added IRND filters and contrast filter in camera throat. Camera mics were used.

My main task was to wheel an aircraft out to ground display for a friend who is in the UK. I had some kid-eagers pick off some of the shots for me.
