HDMI Monitor /EVF

I want a monitor/evf to use with my BMCC and saw a few really nice HDMI monitors but SDI models were well above what I was hoping to spend. Does anyone have any experience using an HDMI monitor with a converter? has anyone tried a passive converter without a battery powering it? I know I've seen a few ,of those online. Thank you

In my opinion this is an really nice EVF for the BMCC. I'm using it myself.

What monitor are you using this with? I have the Blackmagic SDI/HDMI converter and it doesn't work with any of my older monitors. Works great on my TV though. Just haven't found a way to mount a 26" tv to my shoulder rig yet.
