Ronin S + BMPCC4K + latest Firmware's = Success!

Hi there,
yesterday I updated my Ronin S Firmware to the latest Version Cause I wanted to play around a little wit my PS4 Controller, which works good by the way. After reading the release notes i'm still haven't read something about BM Cameras. Very frustrating - cause I just want that simple damn "REC" Button function, like you all do, I guess ;)

Remembering that the latest 6.6. Firmware for the Camera came with USB-C "gimbal" support, I thought - well.. why not.. let's try!

And: Its working! YES!

I did just a little quick tests here. I found out that the record function buttons work. The "stills" functions (Timelapse, Panorama etc.) too. I hadn't much time since yet to trial and error.

My MFT Lenses here are all manual, so I had no possibility to test focusing controls etc.
Maybe you guys try your luck and share your experience here.

Hi Patrick,

That is good news. I read somewhere that support is in the code for the new firmware but it's not officially supported, but happy to hear that you've got it working.

Just tried Firmware V2.1.1.0 on my Pocket 4K V6.6 with an Olympus IS Pro 12-100mm. What I found was that the record button worked once or twice after power on but then seemed to lose communication with the camera. The half press to focus also worked similarly. Had to power cycle the Ronin S to get communication working again. The green light on the focus wheel would be on some times but I didn't notice a change in focus turning the wheel.
So not quite there yet for me and might explain no mention of support yet from DJI. I am particularly looking forward to the focus functions work properly!

Edit: added versions used.

Hey Patrick. The only Ronin S focus experience I have is with heavy Full Frame Canon camera/lens combos before I embraced the dark side of BM. The Focus Motor ran those FF lenses for 8+ hour days with battery to spare so it won’t have any issues with your manual MFT lenses. I can recommend it but keep in mind it will add a little weight (+balance changes) and often requires recalibration if you switch the Ronin S off (so don’t switch it off if you are doing an event).

I did a little more testing last night. I couldn't get reliable operation but did see that the Ronin S focus knob worked, if only briefly. Focus would adjust for about half a turn of the knob before communication was lost again.

I'm not sure if it makes any difference but (after I installed the V2.1.1.0 Firmware and balanced the camera on the Ronin S) I switched both the Ronin and the camera off, connected the Ronin-USB C cable, switched the camera on then the Ronin S. It would then work briefly, after which I power cycled the Ronin S to try again.

Hi Kristian,
Have you tried this at Blackmagic? I have a bmpcc 4k with latest firmware and a ronin s with the latest firmware and neither focus wheel or record button or anything else works.

HI!

What cable did you use to make it work?

DJI's DJI Ronin-S PART5 Multi-Camera Control Cable (Type-C)
or a plain USB C-to USB-C cable?

Can Ronin use it's USB-C port (the one we use for charging) for camera control?

I just updated my Ronin S to latest firmware and als my BMPCC4K to 7.2 and was super happy to see the focuswheel working imidiatly! Until now it also works consistently. Record Button somehow does not work at all. Unluckily i also use a SSD for recording so i want be able to use the focuswheel when shooting. As i read there also is no way of doing both, recording and controlling the camera at the same time (Please correct me!!)
