Black Magic URSA Mini 4.6k Display stays dark

PostWed Nov 27, 2019 8:36 am

Hey I bought a new URSA Mini 4.6k EF a couple of months ago, but haven’t had an opportunity to really test it out yet, because I’m swamped with work. Every now and then when I did have time to play around with it, the display would remain black. I can hear it starting up, the fans inside are spinning, the screen actually does go on, but it just remains black. I attached a video showing this. It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes. And when it does happen I can’t shut it down. It just stays that way, I tried holding down the power button but there was no way around it, the only way I can turn it off, when it does this, is by removing the battery or the power cord.

Today I was trying to set up things for my first real shoot. Got a model coming in from another city today for the shoot, and while changing video settings. The screen had snow on it. I’ll try attaching the videos I shot. But what can I do.

And another side question... that may seem ridiculously amateur (but that’s what I am), how do I shoot in slow motion. In the Video preferences I can only shoot in up to 30 frames. Or does 120fps only work in raw?

Ok so, when it's in black/dark screen mode. I can turn it off, by holding down the power button for about 8 seconds. Record etc doesn't work. I tried with an SSD connected but no luck.

Here are some videos to show what it looks like. I got it back on for a brief half a minute, everything worked then the screen went fuzzy again, and soon after completely snowy. I checked, it's on the latest software. Blackmagic camera setup sees the camera without any problems, when it's in black/dark screen mode.

Here is what it looks like:

Sounds like a faulty hardware. I would contact BM support immediately before you are out of the warranty period and RMA the camera.

You need to send the camera to Blackmagic :/

Same thing happened to my screen recently. It was very loosy, turned black by itself but the camera was still on.
Something was wrong inside the hinge and BM replaced mine completely.
