Best settings for Vimeo upload?

I hope 1) that this is the right section for this and 2) that this hasn't been posted before. The traditional vimeo settings listed on their compression guidelines haven't really been working out with my first Blackmagic upload. I'm getting some macroblocking and the quality just isn't as high as some of the examples I've seen online. The video looks great in full ProRes and I'd like to preserve as much of that quality as I can. Any insight would be awesome.

Your post is lacking information,
Such as what are you rendering them out at? and what NLE? Premiere Pro CS6 has Vimeo render Presets, Do you have a Vimeo Pro Account? = 1080P-otherwise it will only be 720p.
Also You may need to pull back on your shadows and blacks if your seeing macroblocking in the blacks.
Edit: I see you are rendering out in ProRes, I presume it is HQ at 1080?

Try encoding in h.264 at 20Mbit/s datarate. What are you exporting from? If it's FCPX, don't use the "h.264 Master file" preset, it has a pretty low datarate. Additionally, if you have Vimeo Plus or Pro account, make sure to activate 1080P in the video's settings after it's been uploaded and processed by Vimeo.

Good call christian h.264 has always looked better on vimeo than QT.mov's at least for me.

".mov" is just a container. An .mov file could be ProRes, h.264, or many other codecs.

Yes thanks for the correction, I was about to edit my post.

oops sorry. I'm exporting out of final cut 7 and using prores at 1080. I do have a pro account and have been using H.264 at 5,000 kbs with the 23.976 fps intact (I've read vimeo sometimes doesn't like that). I tried converting to 29.97 but that made the macroblocking increase. I've been setting everything to 1280 x 720 HD since Vimeo recommends that.

Awesome I'll try the 1080P option on vimeo, didn't know about that. I'll also try a 1920 x 1080 sized file.

Yeah, don't bother with 720p files. Upload everything at 1080P (even if you're not going to select the 1080P mode in the settings) and at least 10Mbit/s, preferably 20Mbit/s.

20Mbit/s constant rate correct? Is a constant bit rate always better than VBR?
