BMPCC 4K Vs Viltrox EF-M1,M2 Firmware 3.4

PostFri Jan 10, 2020 8:40 pm

I bought a Viltrox EF-M1 lens adapter (without speed booster glass) so I could use a Canon EF-S lens with my BMPCC 4K. When I tried it out with my BMPCC 4K with latest camera firmware, it would perform an auto-focus on power-up of the camera body but not after.

So I went to the Viltrox website, downloaded the latest firmware 3.4, and installed it in the lens adapter. Not only did this NOT fix the auto-focus issue, but it broke the iris control which was working.

I then downloaded and installed Viltrox firmware 3.3, and got back control of the iris. I see in the firmware notes that version 3.3 was to address iris control with the BMPCC 4K and that this firmware applies to the EF-M2 also.

I got mine today. After a lot of experimenting I went back to version 2.3 which gives iris control and IS.

The update/downgrade would not work from my Mac though, had to to borrow a pc.

Do you also have the Pocket 4K? If so, does your Pocket 4K have the latest firmware for it?

Yes and yes.

Both versions of the Viltrox are on 2.3 and all functions (I don’t use autofocus) work perfectly.

So iris at least was working in Viltrox firmware 2.3, then was broken, then fixed in 3.3 and then broken in 3.4.

This is more evidence for my belief that Viltrox does not have good software controls and does not perform regression testing.

Sounds accurate. Although I’ve never had a problem with either of mine on any of the pockets firmware. Just stick to 2.3...

There you go: I got them yesterday after contacting viltrox support.
V2-3.zip
M1 M2 -> V 2.3

I needed to unlock and relock my camera lense into the adapter, to get iris control back, after I updated my stuff:

BMPCC 4k V 6.9.5
EFM1 - V 3.3
EFM2 II - V 3.3

On August 24th, firmwere update version 3.5 was posted on the viltrox website.

I was wondering if this update could fix the aperture problem, so I applied it.

The problem wasn't resolved when I did the update on mac OSX, but I ran the same task on my windows 10 PC and the aperture of the EF-M1 on the BMPCC 4k, which was still the problem, became normal.

My camera is BMPCC 4K version 6.95.
The model used is the EF-M1.

This update relieves your worries.

Thank you for the input.
Don't you know if stabilisation works like the first version?

I guess it is a bit late, but I can confirm that EF-M1 with latest (now it is 4.0) does work with BMPCC4k. IS, Gyro (not together), iris etc are working.
