First Generation BMPCC 4K Question

PostThu Feb 20, 2020 2:24 pm

Hey guys,

I'm brand new here and to film prodution so please forgive me if I am asking stupid questions.

I've just purchased a first generation BMPCC 4 and I am trying to learn the ropes.
It was in mint condition and came with the installation software however that won't run on Mac OSX Yosemite.

My questions are these:

Where would I find the latest or at least, the most recent compatible firmware update for my device?

Where do I find on the device what version is currently installed?

Where would I find the compatible/appropriate interface for my Macbook Pro (it's also a vintage one ! :D )

I'm just trying to learn the ropes with this little beaut and trying to get the best out of it.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks

Conor

you can find the recent updates here:
https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/

In the camera menu, go to the Setup tab. There you can see the hardware ID and the current firmware version (labelled software).

To connect to a computer you need a USB cable.

When you say “first generation BMPCC 4K” are you talking about the original Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera which is HD 1920x1080 or the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K which is 4000x2160?

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K is 4096x2160.

Hello Conor. I’m guessing the original Production Camera 4K. The one with the same body as the original Cinema Camera. Download the latest Camera Firmware and install that. Connect with USB cable. The camera will take the latest firmware for that model and will not have the current version number. You should be up to date then.

Regards. Gary.

Rick and Gary,
Forgive me, I didn't turn notifications on for this forum, my mistake.

What I meant was the original BMPCC, the 2013 one.
Sorry I was a complete newbie then, I mean I still am, but at least I know what camera I have now :)

Thanks for your help!
Thanks
