UMP G2 seemingly chronic issue

PostMon Mar 16, 2020 1:12 am

Hi,

I had an issue very occasionally with my G2 that upon startup or when coming back to rec mode from playback, the LCD screen (and if connected, external monitor) would have show a static-like, pink and green distortion. Restarting it would make it go away.

Here's a video I just took of it: https://vimeo.com/397865898/f189252b14

I didn't think much of it and assumed it might be a firmware thing but then I came across other people on the Facebook group who had RMA'd theirs for that issue.

I sent mine in, they couldn't reproduce it which seemed fair because it was rare. The second time shooting after getting it back, it happened 3x in two hours, which follows the pattern described by others on the Facebook group that the problem gets worse over time. Only going back 2 months I found 5 people with this issue on the Facebook group, one person after going through three cameras gave up and switched brands.

How many people have experienced this? Has anyone been told what the culprit is? Because if it's being RMA'd often as it appears to be, it's not a firmware thing.

I love this camera and love Blackmagic, I've owned/own 5 of their cameras. Honestly for me the bigger concern isn't my one camera, it's that it seems to be a common problem even with new replacements. Not being able to trust my most expensive camera is a problem. Thoughts?
