Ursa mini firmware

PostTue Mar 24, 2020 9:15 am

Hi guys,

I have a Ursa Mini 4.6k and I was wondering what is the latest firmware worth installing that actually has anything relevant for my camera. I don't think bmraw is available for the 4.6k, is it?

Thanks

To answer the question, my understanding is that the firmware updates from BMD are cumulative, so if you simply download the latest firmware available from the BMD website it'll recognize your camera, check its firmware version, and update it if necessary; if you already have the latest firmware installed for your camera it won't do anything.

The only danger to avoid is to install a firmware update that removes a feature you want to keep. For cameras with BRAW support, updates remove the ability to record CDNG raw. But since your camera can't record BRAW, installing the latest firmware update should not remove your ability to record CDNG files. They wouldn't take away CDNG unless they were replacing it with another raw codec (in this case BRAW).

The last firmware update for the original URSA Mini 4.6K is 4.8.

Hopefully Firmware 6.9 is skipped and we go to 7.0 and it's a huge update. Huge like what Firmware 4.0 was for the URSA Mini's back in 2016.

Latest Firmware for Each Camera:
BMCC 2.5K: 2.1
BMPC 4K: 4.3.2
BMPCC: 2.1
URSA: 2.6
URSA Mini 4K: 4.9
Original UM 4.6K: 4.8
Micro CC: 4.7.1
UMP G1: 6.0 or 6.0.1
UM Broadcast: 6.8.1
Pocket 4K: 6.8
UMP G2: 6.5.1
Pocket6K : 6.8

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help, guys. Any idea why there is no BMRaw for Ursa Mini 4.6k? Is there a software limitation?
