BMPCC Power Consumption

PostTue Aug 13, 2013 7:17 am

So I did some calculations to find out how much power the Pocket uses, and it seems to be 7.55 watts.

Assuming the battery pictured on the product page is the one used for the estimated one hour runtime, the mAh is 1020 and the voltage is 7.4v.

mAh x V / 1000 = Wh
1020 x 7.4 / 1000 = 7.548

Wh / h = W
7.548 / 1 = 7.548

This would mean that those 7.4v 1200mAh batteries should get you 1h10m runtime.

Power consumption isn't constant unless you set it up, press record and leave it like that. Usually display is the main consumer of power, if we were able to blank it during recordings this could considerably extend the battery duration. Of course recording time is also limited by card space available, so > 1h is probably enough. I'd always swap cards and batteries at the same time.
