Adding a Panasonic gh5s to BMPCC P4K. Anyone?

PostThu May 21, 2020 1:03 am

Just thinking about it. I run a recording studio and now have 4 P4K and an ATEM mini Pro. I bought a Panasonic 10-25 1.7 zoom to use and have 2 rockinon 16mm t2 lenses also.

So I need to pick up one more lens still also .But I was ruminating whether it might be a good idea to pick up a gh5s body for even better low light work. Maybe not for live-streaming as the p4kcamera controlwith ATEM is great . But maybe on the gimbal or?

Just wondering if anyone has these two models coexisting

The Pana 5S is not going to have any better low light capability than the PC4K has, they have similar sensors, just a different size. The only thing you gain is better still photo support, and a EVF of sorts.
Cheers

Thanks Denny, some of the reviews I was reading seemed to say so especially at higher ISO settings.. I guess I have gas lol. And I figured I could also use it for general photography as a still camera as well and be able to use the same zoom on both...But seems I just have a case of gas lol

The GH5S is a nice camera, but for still shooting I would consider a lightly used GH5 and get the IBIS.
I use a Nikon Z6 for still and some quick turnaround video work. It interfaces nicely with the Pocket 4/6K, and Rick used one as a B Cam, with his Pocket 4K as A Cam, doing a live performance recording in a mixed theatrical lighting situation.

The GH5s is a nice camera, but getting it to match the BMD 4k can be more work than it's worth. In one poorly lit scene, the GH5s had a bit less noise, but not nearly as nice colour. It picked up some green on people's faces, a yellow tint on the wood, and a blue tint on the floor. Getting rid of the noise is easy with Neat Video. Getting the colors to match took a while.

If you don't already have the GH5s, and if you are not looking for it for photos also, I would suggest your next camera be another 4k or the 6k.

I agree. I found that unlike shooting raw with a cinema camera, the GH5S bakes in a lot of how it wants the scene to look.

I tried to match it here, with mixed results:

I build corrective LUTs for both cameras so yes, they can be matched :)

Hope this helps!

I did some research and it seems that yes a Lut can do the job . Figure it out once and you can be set?

Don't expect magic. A LUT can only work if exposure is perfect on both cameras.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.
