i am very new to the BMCC to resolve workflow
i found some tutorials but were only partly helpful
i had learnt how to create proxies and edit (i use premiere pro cs6)
and conform the xml
the question is how to i create output for screening etc from the color corrected dng files
i read about round tripping which says it needs to taken back to the editing software/aftereffects
i am confused
please help

RAW work flow is similar to the old offline/online process use when shooting film.

Shoot RAW
Develop DNGs in Resolve (1st light grade)
Export proxies
Edit "offline" on NLE
Export XML
Grade in Resolve (master grade)
Export master grade (and XML)
Re-conform in NLE and master for deliver (titles, mastered audio, etc)
Deliver (various export options)

While you could export from Resolve to your master, your NEL is better suited to the process.

Although my original intention is to shoot ProRes with the BMCC, I would like to know the possibilities and requirements of shooting 2.5K raw for a 2K finish.

So I would like advise on a BMCC-FCPX-RESOLVE (+Filmconvert) workflow.

Facts:
-I have a 2013 Macbook Pro 13" with Intel HD Graphics 4000 and 16GB Ram. I'm using G-Drive USB3.
-I know Resolve won't run on it, but I have access to a mid-2011 iMac 21.5". It's 2.5 Ghz, i5, with AMD Radeon HD 6750m 512MB. Currently it has 8GB 1333Mhz RAM. It runs Resolve as I tried it out with some H264 footage. Conversion was slow, but I worked from the internal hard drive.

So... how about this workflow:
1, Shoot CinemaDNG RAW
2, Import into Resolve (iMac)
3, In Resolve convert to ProRes Proxy
4, Import ProRes Proxy into FCPX (the latest version)
5, Edit in FCPX
6, Export XML
7, Import XML into Resolve
8, Color correct and grade in Resolve

and.... what's next? Exporting footage from Resolve into FCPX for final delivery and titles, etc?

Will the iMac be powerful enough to be able to handle the transcoding, simple grading and exporting? I would do this from my external USB3 drives.

Is the XML from FCPX is compatible with Resolve?

Most of my mastering is done at ProRes 422 HQ. Simple because that is all that is required for most of my work.

If you are mastering for DCP I would export a ProRes 444.

It depends on the festival. Some (most) want a DCP package. There are however some that will happily take a ProRes 422 HQ file.

I normally export 2 formats for a job. A master (ProRes 422 HQ in most cases) and a computer/web friendly version (1080p H.264 normally).

I don't believe that iMac is actually supported. The GPU is not really up to the task of running Resolve. But if you have it running then good luck.

Correct.

As I said above I don't believe it would manage with the task. For 2k work you ideally need a GTX GPU with at least 2GB.

I've run Resolve 9 Lite, the latest version on it and it worked. But let's see how the full program works when I get it with my camera.

By the way, if Resolve 10 comes out in the next few weeks, will I get free update as I purchased the current version just before the release of 10?

Something is not clear for me...
At point 8, color correct and grade in Resolve. Do I work with Proxy files or RAW files at this point? Or when do I relink with the RAW files?

Once I have the camera, software, etc... and if I check the RAW workflow on a couple of shots. If it works, it means it will work with more files, like on a feature project as well?

I'm still uncertain about the RAW workflow, but a 2K finishing would make it a little bit more future proof.... Or anyway, I would still have the option of:
1, shoot RAW, convert it to Prores proxy on the iMac
2, editing in FCPX then export XML....
3,.... and look for a post house with a good colorist and professional Resolve environment, and grade my footage there....

Resolve 10 is a free upgrade to all Resolve 9 users.

You start in Resolve. You create a new project and export your proxies. Normally I simply apply a LUT to the footage and export. No point in spending more time on it as you might work on clips that never make it into the edit.

You then export XML along with the proxies.

You open that XML in FCPX and it imports the proxies automatically.

Now work on your edit. Once you are done you export the FCPXML.

Back in Resolve you open your project and import that FCPXML. In the import dialogue you deselect the "Automatically import source clips into media pool".
You do this because you master clips are in the media pool. Importing the source clips will import the proxies.

Resolve will now relink all the proxies clips with the masters. You can now grade from the original DNGs and have all the control as normal.
