BMPCC4K IR pollution from fire.

PostWed Jun 03, 2020 5:08 pm

I've never really had problems with IR pollution, which I assume is ambient temperture dependant ? .... but I've started to work on a project with some poi (fire) perfomers and have noticed some odd 'muddy' colour shifts on skin and clothing of the perfomers when I was grading. Is it a good assumption that an IR cut filter would be beneficial when filming these perfomances as they are often very close to one or more moving heat sources ?

Probably, fire is way down the temp scale ~1000-2000K, it's going to be warm. If you correct and balance to 2000K you're balancing beneath what humans generally perceive as white, 3200-9300K, expect some weirdness. BM cameras have never fared well with Tungsten, I'd imagine fire is worse. You may have some luck with a lower IR cut like a 715nm or a 680nm, additionally you might try a CC filter like an 80C or D if there's some stop to give.

Good Luck

best solution for the 4c

https://rawlite.com/olpf-for-blackmagic ... BUYBMPCC4K

if you have more than one lens, and on all you will
IRcut, you need 2 or more IR/UV filters - good ones cost 150.- and up.

but with the rawlite OLPF all of your lens and filters will work
without any compromise and also protects you from moiré!
