What claps you use and why ?

I was yesterday out on the location shooting tv spot
and got thinking what other people use for clap?

This time we did not have TC in audio channel so i have to resync by hearing later
but as it is just one 1 minute one shot for a spot it is not so much of a trouble.

Just got me wondering.

Just a white standard half translucent (so you can light it from the back in dark situation) slate, nothing fancy or with timecode, I also got a slate app on my phone if I need that (but never actually used it).

electronic clap with clear "beep" would also work i think in simple situations ?

With timecode it would be fancy but ads some extra cost that some jobs can not justify.

The app I have does the beep and shows at least the current time (that's not exactly timecode, I know)

Back in my 7D era, I would just get the talent to clap their hands once before they started.

Not the most elegant method, but it works.

I helped when I told the client it was either that or a $350 a day PA to do it. The talent really seemed to enjoy it...sort of got them in character.

I use Movie Slate app on an IPad, you can even sync it to camera time code with an ext. cable, if camera supports this. Works great for multi. cam setups.

I also use Movie Slate on the iPad without the cables, though have been thinking about that. I look at the time stamp of each of the devices the night before the shoot and get them pretty close (with a few seconds or so). After that I can line them up then use Pluralize or having just installed CC Premiere sync from there.

Ideal would be using TC receiver that feeds TC to BMC audio channel but have not tested it out.

Slate is somewhat alternative to it.

Someone made in youtube beeper with light that also seemed good idea as some of the slates
do not have good sound for syncing.

One had echo on clap sound which i find a bit confusing.

Something like PIP in the movies would be nice but have not found industrially made one.
