Low Light with the Black Magic Cinema Camera

PostFri Aug 23, 2013 5:19 pm

Hey I was wondering what is the best setting to use on the BMCC in low light situations? I know that lens makes a difference but doing my recents test shoots I have been getting a lot grain in my final image. I use the Rokinon 85mm lens and the Canon 17-40mm ultrasonic. Also I am in the process of getting a new lens any suggestions?

Fast glass, of course. The advantage of the smaller BMC sensor is that you can shoot f1.8 without having a razor thin DOF (just normal thin ;) )

And you have to denoise your footage! There are many solutions available, I use Neat Video because of it´s excellent temoral denoiser that doesn´t compromise image resolution.

Your Rokinon lens should be much better suited at F/1.4 for low-light than your Canon 17-40mm zoom lens, which is max. F/4.0. Try the Rokinon at F/1.4, camera at 180 degrees shutter angle and ISO 800.
