BMD Pocket with Lumix 12-35 - AF issues

I picked up my camera on Friday, unboxed it, mounted the 12-35 Lumix, did two test clips and went on a one trip for one week. I am quite sure AF was working on this lens when I tested it - but trying to shoot now it does not. If I push the focus button the focus moves to somewhere near infinity. It moves anyway even when the subjects is in focus and I press the focus button.
Manual focus works fine, images are crisp an sharp. AF with the 14-140 works also.

I am a little worried because the lens starts focussing but completely wrong.
Lens is six months old and still under warrenty. Any idea what could be wrong?
Maybe a settings mistake by my side?
Thanks for help

Off your topic, but how does the 14-140mm look on you camera? I haven't seen any footage yet with that lens.

I didn't push the record button, I just mounted the lens to check AF issue. I used it often on my GH2 and the footage looked better than the lens :-)

it seems that I am the only one with this issue..
here's what BMD support wrote:

We have seen some issues with this lens and auto focus, and these have been resolved by updating the firmware for the Panasonic lens, as there have been 2 updates for this lens, 1 in December and 1 in May, that change it's auto focus function. The latest firmware works fine with the auto focus feature on our camera.

thanks to BMD for this fast help, I appreciate this service very much!

So how do you update lens firmware?

I don't think it can be done with the BMPC.
Normally you would have the lens mounted on a camera (Panasonic/Olympus) with the downloaded firmware on the SD card. Fairly simple and straight forward - if you have the camera body.

The Olympus Updater will upgrade the Lumix 12-35 lens as well - It does the camera body first, then whatever lens you have attached, all via the USB connection. Assume you have to have an Olympus camera.

Didn't see any option to use the SD card, in fact it explicitly says to remove it from the camera.

I did some shots bzt I can't show any footage due to limited bandwidth abroad.
I will sell this lens in bundle with my GH2. As it has no sw correction in the BMD it
is too soft

how to focus manually with this lens?

I wonder how John Brawley managed to focus with this lens with a prototype camera without AF? I don't see too much in daylight on this display and as this lens goes way beyond infinity It's just luck to hit the focus esp. from 10ft to infinity. Focus mark doesn't make a difference in this range, green color of the mark isn't helpful either when you shoot landscape. What's your experience guys?

I don't have my (pre-ordered 4/8/13) Pocket Cam yet but you've got me wondering . . .
Are we saying that turning the focus ring on the lens has no effect?

Thanks in advance.

Off course it has an effect but as it goes beyond infinity and as there is no meter mark at the ring I find it difficult to hit the focus

Any AF lens is a PITA for manual focusing.

Probably it goes beyond infinity which is a PITA for manual focussing too.
Updating FW solved this issue but AF isn't what you may be used from a DSLR.

I know the focus is not the same - but anyway its a help when you are operating in strong daylight where the screen can be difficult to use.
How did you update? I just have the blackmagic pocket camera and no lumix camera - so is it possible to update the lens through the blackmagic camera or???

Kind regards

Unfortunately not. You will need a Panasonic or Olympus body to update the lens.

does anyone knows if the same applys to sigma lenses?
I have a 30mm 2.8 mft sigma that partially works on the pocket.
AF - yes
Aperture - No.

Now, that's concerning!
What has been your solution? I can't see myself hooking up an external monitor when in guerilla mode and I'd like to avoid the overhead-cloth as much as possible, too.

I don't concern myself to this until blooming isn't solved. Comparing to this it's a minor issue and I guess that hoodman or kinotehnik will come with a loupe viewfinder.

by the way.. it's still Lumix AF topic.

here comes a solution - you got to update the firmware of the lens to regain the AF function with the pocket.

Crap.... Anyone in NYC with a lumix camera?

Otherwise, I'm loving the lumix 12-35 lens so far...

Same issue with my H-HS35100, I have a few other Panasonic lenses including the H-HS12035.

Seems that both the H-HS serious have issues with firmware 1.1. The lenses that work fine are the H-FS100300 and the H-H020.

After updating the 12-35 to firmware 1.2 it also now works flawlessly.

Wonder if this is a panasonic issue?

Of course the challenge for some of us is that we don't have Panasonic/Lumix cameras to do the lens firmware update. I know have a friend or two with GH2.
