BMCC EF Image Stabilization only when recording

Hey guys,

I just received a new BMCC (EF model) and I noticed that the Image Stabilization on my Canon 17-55 only works when the camera is recording.

Is this in line with other people's cameras?

I'm fine with this - I'm only asking because I returned the previous BMCC I received because I thought the IS didn't work, but I feel like I never tried it while recording. IS works when my lenses are attached to my Canon 7D regardless of whether I'm recording or not.

Anyhow, just wanted to see if this is how other folks' cameras behaved.

I'm not sure if its across the board but all my lenses dont have IS unless the camera is recording. Its common . Dont worry about it.

Cool, thanks for the reply. Just wanted to make sure it was normal.

It's normal. IS is only active while recording (saves a bit on battery life).

See page 25 in the BMD camera user manual (PDF):

When running on internal battery IS is only active when recording. When running off an external power source (e.g. external battery or power cable) IS is always active unless it's turned off on the lens.
