PostWed Aug 28, 2013 2:59 pm

Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Lens for Nikon

Aperture Range: f/1.8-16
Designed for APS-C-Sized Sensors
35mm Equivalent Focal Length: 27-52.5mm

Questions about this lens.

1. So far reading what I've done this looks like best budjet lens for BMCC MFT camera for a person who has no lens in his kit. Educate me if I'm wrong.

2. Will this easily beat rokinon 24mm cine prime?

3. What is its exact range on BMCC MFT camera with metabones speedbooster.

4. What is its exact range on BMCC MFT camera with Nikon to mft adapter.

5. Any links for videos shot with BMCC MFT using Metabones speedbooster and Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8

To get equivalent FOV on BMCC multiply x 2.28
with Metabones Speed Booster will be x 2.28 x .71

Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 with speed booster gives your standard wide (at widest end) and normal portrait (the other end).

Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 for Nikon mount is not yet as far as I know, hopefully October or sooner.

Don't have the lens so don't know if it beats rokinon 24mm cine prime. The Sigma lens looks amazingly sharp (even when wide open) but you'd have to look at the footage to see if that suits you.

Cheers,
Jules

Is X 2.28 equivalent FOV in comparison with Super35 or Fullframe 35?

1: it's the best zoom in the budget range available today. Is it the best all rounder though. I would go for a 17-55 range as it gives you more variety in focal lengths ( between 35-50 is my favourite area for masters) and 2.8 is still a cracking aperture to work with.

2: at what? the 24mm is a prime lens at 1.4 The sigma is a zoom.

3 & 4 depends what lenses you put on them.

5: why does it have to have a speedbooster? If this is about crop factors then rethink your strategy. Treat the camera as what it is. It will still give an incredible image and it's just what the camera does. Forget about crop factors and just learn the camera.

The images from this lens are fantastic. Sharp and crisp and super low color cast.

Price/Image quality is hard to beat.

BUT, it has a serious issue that I, and some others hate. The utterly short focus throw. It's A LITTLE better with a FF that has the gears to widen the throw, but still its too short. Run and Gun and pulling focus? A sure way to get your 1st AC to hate you.

1. yeah tht gives more focal lengths but with f1.8 I can have less lighting set up , this is what I'm thinking.

2. Yes 24mm is prime and sigma is zoom , wat I meant is, Is shooting a whole 20 min film on sigma 18-35 f1.8 zoom at 24mm is same like shooting 20min with rokinon 24mm prime?

3&4. I'm asking about sigma 18-35 f1.8

5. I'm thinking abt speedbooster and crop factors because adding a speedbooster on bmcc MFT will make it near to super35 (Isn't it? )

1: If your shooting a film then even with a 1.8 you should think about having a light set up. Yes 1.8 will work better in low light but it will also bring other areas of thought like focussing. Roger Deakins shoots at 2.8 for interiors and 4-5 for exteriors in general. Now your not going to have all his setup but low apertures need to be thought about. Wide apertures are not always the answer.

2: I imagine at 24mm the Rokinon would provide a better image. Unfortunately it's a question of personal preference.

3: there will be tech explantions out there. It brings it closer to super 35 and APSC. so a crop of around 1.5

5: Why do you want it to be closer to super 35?
