DEAD Pixels

PostSat Aug 08, 2020 12:36 pm

Hello Black Magic Pros,

I recently brought a Black Magic Pocket cinema 4K from Craigs list. Stupid I know NOW! On site every thing looked good until I got home and looked at the test footage. I found several dead pixels in the image. I checked the sensor and it was clean and the same for the lens. I was pressed for time and needed a camera that day. I live in Baltimore and need to know how to get this unit repaired.. I'm stuck with it $900.00 later. Can you help me? what is the cost of a repair for such a unit and is it close... On the lighter side I just recovered from COVID-19 and wanted my first project to be my best one EVER and I want it to be with the Black Magic 4K. Can Black Magic Please Help me? I'm a full time Videographer and the struggle is real in a world where cell phone (IPHONES) users are going after your future customers and my future clients. Please Help Me, I am truly a loyal normal customer and buyer of your gear for my day job.

Peace and Blessings,
Myke

Hi... What color is your "dead pixels" if the are something like grey, they must be just "stuck" pixels...you should before anything do a "pixel remap" feature - you can find it at your camera menu. Do it several times, always with lens cap attached to the lens. If it dont work, or pixels are in red colour, so they can be really dead ones. I had about 3 red dead pixels on my 1st bmpcc4k. They appeared after about 1 month of use... that I had to send back to BM... as I´m from Brazil, I had to wait about 45 days to recieve a new one (new, not repaired). Good Luck

There’s no “repair” for dead pixels but you can usually re-map them.

Have you tried that function in the menu ?

They'll change the camera/ board/ sensor for you if the camera is within warranty.

Thank you all for the advice and help! I will try all the advised paths you set out for me. Worse case, it become a $900.00 smash cam in a video. I will never buy second hand again.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but it's still relevant.

Just wanted to say I noticed a "dead" pixel on my pocket 4k today and after selecting "Calibrate Image Sensor" in the last page of the Setup menu with a lens cap attached, I was able to clear the stuck pixel. Thank you fine people! Had to make an account to post this. This pocket 4k will film many more weddings without the need for repair now.
