Braw takes up less space on the 12K?

PostMon Sep 21, 2020 3:45 pm

From the G2 tech specs page:
3840 x 2160
Blackmagic RAW 5:1 - 76 MB/s

And from the 12K:
4096 x 2160
Blackmagic RAW 5:1 - 65 MB/s

So the 12K would seem to have a lower bitrate at a higher resolution. Can anyone explain why this is?

It's likely that it's just due to improvements in the image processing and compression. It wouldn't be the first time BMD has done something like that.

With all cameras braw had to manager Bayer pattern, rgb must be managed with Bayer matrix management.
12k sensor is newer tech without Bayer matrix, may be that Blackmagic Design did more magic to optimize compression in every single channel, be cause they can be compressed indipendent from each other.
