Which SD for BMPCC

PostWed Sep 18, 2013 10:59 pm

My BMPCC is on order and I'm trying to figure out which SD cards to buy. Is a Sandisk Extreme Pro fast enough to record ProRes 4.2.2? Will it be fast enough for raw when that becomes available?

Thanks!

The link below should supply you with the SD cards approved by our company.

Thanks. The approved list says for Apple ProRes 4.2.2. Will they also be fast enough for raw? The tech spec for Apple ProRes 4.2.2 (HQ) also says it has a storage throughput of 220Mbps which would seem to be more than the approved cards. Am I not understanding that correctly?

Thanks,

I would imagine that when Raw is released, BMD will post qualified cards for Raw

I am using Sony 64G @ 96MB/sec.
So far, so good.

mbps, and MBps are two different things ;)
But from my own testing, the 64gb Sandisk Extreme 95MB/s is the best to work with presently.
I haven't gotten it to work on any 45MB/s cards yet for more than a few seconds w/o dropping frames.
I will eventually also try out the odd 80MB/s from Sandisk, but that'll have to wait till next month.

I'm using SanDisk Extreme 45mb/s SD HC I.

These won't work with raw but they've been working well with the ProRes files.
Occasional dropped frames 'REC blinking' but for the most part, it's stable. Camera always detects it.

Hi Tony,
I've tested both 64GB and 32GB Sandisk Extreme (45mb/s) cards, and even with two 32GB different cards tested, the 32GB versions always drop frames within 10 seconds of recording. The 64GB works fine, so I'm wondering if that was consistent with BMD's testing, thus being omitted from the recommended list (I see 16GB and 64Gb versions on there, but not the 32). Just wanted to confirm before I bought more cards. Thanks!

To be completely honest, I have no knowledge of what SD cards are in queue to be certified right now other than what's on our current list. I do know there are some being run through the approval process all the time but I don't have access to that information until we go official with our results.

I use Sandisk 95's 32GB with no dropped frames.

Try formatting them again.

BTW if anyone wants to buy a gently used (twice!) Sandisk Extreme Pro 45MB/s 128GB SD card from me, please PM! I bought it from Adorama so it's not a knock-off on eBay.
