I have been playing with the bmpcc4k BRAW file in resolve 17 and find the new gen5 color science is really good.
In BMPCC4K I have set the dynamic range to VIDEO instead of film. Upon import into Resolve 17 I would go to the color page in the camera tab. And change the colors science to gen5. I find the highlight roll off a massive improvement when compared to gen4. Is there a way to get a preview of the gen5 colors science in camera so that we can see how gen5 render in camera.
I find it much easier to use the VIDEO dynamic range as a starting point to color grade as the contrast and saturation seem more natural and you can still manipulate the file anyway you like as it’s still A Raw video. Is this a correct assumption. Hope some one can chime in.
I do hope that black magic would update the bmpcc4k and 6k to gen5 colors science I think that would make the camera colors even better.
Settting the dynamic range to film just give you less saturated and less contrasty video to start with and you would still have to add contrast and Saturation in resolve. In my noob test I find it easier instead to start with a standard contrast of rec709 then dial down the saturation or contrast as needed as the BRAW is still a raw file after all. Am I correct to assume that
Hope the more experience experts in this forum would chime in
Cheers
