PORTKEYS LEYE EVF | REVIEW | BMPCC6K

PostMon Dec 21, 2020 12:39 pm

Hey guys,
Here is my review of the Portkeys LEYE EVF.

An affordable and compact electronic viewfinder for the BMPCC6K.
In this video I will talk about my experience using it, what I like and don’t like about it and whether or not I would recommend it.

As always this is my honest opinion after using the EVF for a few days.

Do you guys use an EVF ? :)

Let me know if you have any questions in the comments :).

Cheers,
Flo

Excellent overview. The Portkeys site doesn't say what the L-EYE weighs. Do you know, or maybe have a kitchen scale? Also, does zoom to help focus work anywhere in the image, or is it restricted to the centre?

Thanks !! it weights around 240g. When you zoom it is set to the middle first but you can actually change the position in the settings as well as magnification.

Thanks Florent. Right now, I think that Z-Cam's new EVF is probably the main competition. Here's some comparative info:

Z-Cam EVF101

Price: US$1,000
Signal: HDMI and SDI
Resolution: 1440x1440
Image width: 2.9” (0.5" or 21% larger than the Portkeys L-EYE)
Colour: 10 bit
Contrast:?
Brightness: ?
Wireless: Yes, 5Gh. An app can control the EVF.
Power: DC in
Weight: 612.6g/21.6oz

Portkeys L-EYE

Price: US$400
Signal: HDMI
Resolution: 1440x900
Image width: 2.4”
Colour: 8 bit
Contrast: 1100:1
Brightness: 300 nits
Wireless: No.
Power: DC in and USB 5V
Weight: ~240g/8.5oz

Nice review Florent, thanks. The one thing that is missing is SDI, which is a deal breaker for me. I have the UMP and P6K. If it had both SDI and HDMI, this will be a good value at $399. I know they have an EVF with SDI and HDMI but that is overpriced like many other EVFs.

Thank you !! I agree with you. It works for me since I only have the BMPCC6K at the moment. Maybe they'll release a SDI version later or a dual for slightly more since I think this will be the main feedback.

Is there any distortion or blurry edges from diopter?

I see you were able to turn the built-in screen off. Is this correct?

As always ,love your work and this review.

Nice review. Tempting price but like the P6K without the add ones for now. How do you like the 24-105 F4 II on the P6k? I had it but wasn’t impressed by it’s optical qualities (I could just have had a bad sample) compared to my 24-70 F4 (could just have a good sample).

Thank you !!
I do like the 24-105 F4 II, I use it a lot on docos. It isn't beautiful or special though, it just works. The range is very useful but not the best optics indeed. I use it for stills more.
I had the 24-70 and also the 16-35 F4 for example and I like them both better.

Thanks - I'll pass on trying another sample in the hope of getting a better result.....
