Lilliput 7" 663/S with HD-SDI

PostFri Oct 04, 2013 5:57 pm

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone uses the Lilliput 7" 663/S monitor that has an HD-SDI input? I'm wondering if it's worth the extra £200 over the same monitor with HDMI, as I have a cheap HDMI to SDI adapter that seems to work fine with my BMCC and Samsung HDTV.

Please be careful when connecting Lilliput 7" monitor to BMCC directly or indirectly. You may lose the SDI output of BMCC. There are few reported cases in Asia. Please update your experience after using it.

Right, that sounds like it's not the way to go then  Eddie, would the Lilliput 7" 663 with HDMI only + an HDMI to HD-SDI adapter be fine?

I have been using one of these monitors for a month now on my BMCC and so far no problem at all.

I chose it over an HDMI-only monitor because of the fragile nature of HDMI plugs. I also didn't want to have to manage another device if I needed a converter.

Eddie, sounds ominous. Do you mean damage could be caused to the BMCC, or that the connection might simply fail to display on the Lilliput?

Hello everyone, i'm new here, this is my first post.

I've got the 3G-HDSI version of this monitor and it works just fine with my Blackmagic Cinema Camera (EF). I chose this version over HDMI only cause I read some comments on other forums of people having problems with Liliput monitors and HDMI converters solutions. So I didn't want to take the risk.

On the first shooting I did with this combination, I lost the signal a couple of times, but at the end I realized I we didn't plug the cable properly... After that, no more signal lost for us. So, for me is a great monitor with a very nice resolution. I absolutely recommend it.

The damage is caused to the SDI output of BMCC. Have to replace the main PCB board.

I would also like to know if the Lilliput 663/O/P with HDMI only + an HDMI to HD-SDI converter would still be an issue or if it's just the SDI output of the 663/S that causes a fault?

Eddie,
I am still not gettin' this.
Lillput 663/s causing damage to SDI output of BMCC? How this can be possible?
Sorry Eddie but your argument isn't clear enough, can you please explain the basic facts.

I agree. I just ordered a 665GL w/SDI and would like to know if I run the risk of damaging my camera. What models of Lilliput monitors do this? What is the nature of the damage exactly? Are these incidental reports or are they confirmed?

If BMD knows a particular monitor may cause damage to the camera, I'd think it would be their responsibility to make this a sticky and distribute the information via email to all their registered customers.

SDI port burn is a known problem using BMCC and other accessories. I doubt it's the Liliput fault, no matter what the manufactor is - the BMCC SDI port will burn in a couple of months.

Yeah I just did a fairly large video review of this monitor.
I've had no sdi port issues. I've used a standard
75ohm coaxial as well a top of the line Canare cable.
Both cables worked fine.

¡Woow! ¿BMCC SDI output damage? That's really serious, that tells, you can't plug any monitor to the camera just like that, didn't expect that, pretty weird ¿How about a supported monitor list then?

By the other hand, those malfunctions might be caused by people, knowing some persons just go berserker on their gear.

But it's a really serious warning indeed.

Need to buy a new monitor soon. Which manufacturers are recommended? Also how could one type of monitor cause the SDI output to fail on a camera?

Thanks. Good to know it's technically plausible. May have to avoid Liliput then. Some recommended models/manufacturers would be helpful.

I know there's some confusion with those who are trying to get hdmi-sdi convertors working so you don't have get an sdi monitor. You might want to watch the video on this page as he identifies the problem, then sells you his gadget.

I've been using a Ikan VX7 for a couple years.... it has sdi in and out and I was assuming it might work on the BMCC

I just ordered my BMCC and it's on the way. Does anyone have the IKAN VX7 and does it work??

Thanks in advance

So is this an issue with this company, just this model, or with higher resolution monitors such as retina and ips? I have a lower resolution cineroid evf without issue but someone else said that the cineroid retina evf burned out SDI on the BMCC. If it is the particular model, then is there an issue with the 663/S2

If u wanna take photos or make short videos, just choose lilliput 663 with hdmi input and ur hdmi-sdi converter, if u wanna make movies, you'd better choose with lilliput 663 with sdi input, it'll be much helpful, and worth the extra value.
