6K Pro and Tamron lenses

PostWed Mar 03, 2021 2:31 pm

Hi All,

Have ordered my 6K Pro and am also planning to purchase a Tamron 15-30mm 2.8 IS. However, a colleague just told me that Tamron lenses don’t work well (the IS, AF, and Iris) with the 6K in general. Been Googling around for any resolution to this issue and was hoping if such is not the case anymore and that I can go ahead and make the Tamron purchase.

Thank you all in advance,

Anthony

Today I tested the Tamron 24-70 G2 and the 100-400 on the 6k Pro and I didn't have any issues with them.

I'm awaiting my delivery of the BMPCC6K Pro (B&H is slow), and I own that lens so trying it out will be my first priority since it's the ultimate dream combination (having I.S. to avoid micro-jitters at that wide focal length is something that lens manufacturers otherwise stupidly think isn't relevant). But I'm absolutely not optimistic; just because other Tamron lenses might work, doesn't guarantee that all of them will. I've read confirmed reports that this specific 15-30mm G2 doesn't work in all categories of aperture, focus and I.S. Usually one or more of those features is dead.

I really wish that everyone would coordinate to make these compatible. Cheapo lens adapters, all the way up to Metabones, have the same problem.

Basically, I wouldn't buy it yet, and I'll definitely post back once B&H finally delivers.

Got my BMPCC6K Pro today, and thrilled to find that the killer trifecta of Tamron lenses -- 15-30mm f/2.8 G2, 24-70mm f/2.8 G2, & 45mm f/1.8 prime -- are fully controllable in all three categories of: (one-touch-auto-)focus, aperture, and VC image stabilization. What a huge relief, and what a perfect match for this camera that's probably the last hurrah for EF mount worldwide.

This especially makes Viltrox, etc. look bad for their EF to MFT & E-mount lens adapters failing to be fully compatible with these same lenses.

Hi. Any word if the bmpcc6k works with the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8?

Got the lens for church and Sunday, and starting to get nervous after reading the forums.

Just talking from experience, All the line of Blackmagic’s cameras have an issue with Tamron lenses. You can’t be certain which ones will work today or tomorrow. I don’t know who takes responsibility but that’s just the way it is with Tamron and BMD.

That's actually a really counter-productive attitude to espouse here; the value of a forum like this is solely to exchange specific model-to-model pairing data, rather than generalizing entire brands. Every Tamron EF-mount lens that I own works just as well as any other lens with my BMPCC6K Pro, and I carefully researched things shared here in the forums to verify compatibility.

Well, I'm sorry you think of it that way but it is what it is. Being a bottom of the barrel brand of lenses, I don't think that enough testing from the manufacturer (not you the user) is done to insure compatibility. This forum is, in addition to bringing positivity, is also to point out what generally is the attitude that hinders testing, hence issues. I didn't say that the brand is bad, it is just that little or no consideration has been put on it (unlike a Canon or a Sigma brand). Forums are also full of individual commentaries, good or otherwise. If you can't deal with it, then that is on you. Personally, I don't really give a care. But please get back on the conversation regarding what Tamron lenses may work with the 6K Pro, and be the good tester for this forum. I stand by my statement if that is of any value to those who are willing to consider. We're all big boys/girls here and can decide for our own.

Some of the info on this thread seems pretty out of date. Tamron is no longer a "bottom of the barrel brand." The new Tamron 35-150 F2-2.8 for Sony e-mount is one of the best lenses I've ever owned (and very well-reviewed. We have the Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 for Canon, which works perfectly on the Pocket Cinema 6K. Aperture control and autofocus work as expected. We also control the camera through the ATEM with bi-directional SDI convertors and controls, including fine manual focus, work flawlessly.

Ellory Yu's comment was out of date the moment she thought it, way back then, as I noted at the time.

I do enjoy pairing the 24-70mm G2 with my BMPCC6K Pro, as well as the 15-30mm G2, especially to leverage their in-lens VC to compensate for the lack of I.B.I.S. in the Blackmagic universe.

Both Sigma and Tamron upped their game considerably, don’t be fooled by their old reputation. Unless you buy vintage glass, that is. Even then, an old Tamron 90mm macro is one of my favourite tele lenses on S-35.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Hello to all you specialists.
I did read your comments about Tamron Lenses and BMDpro6K

My point is, that :
I have a new Camera(version 8.1 software)BMC 6K
I have 2 Tamron lenses
1-> 24-70 mm. F/2,8, Di Vi USD g2

2-> 70-200 mm, F/2,8. Di VC USD G2

But, the auto focus of the camera does not work. all I can do is do it by hand. That means, a lot of work during filming with a lot of material to throw away.
I use the AF button, bit still no action within the camera.

What a I doing wrong.

Please shoot your thoughts

Just making sure: is the AF switch on the lens barrel on? Works for me.
