Original BMCC 2.5

Hi

Just got an original BMCC 2.5 mft delivered literally 20 mins ago - got it out, and switched it on. Here's what happened:

A line appeared across the screen and then slowly disappeared and screen was fine (green if peaking on, gray if off). Then I switched it off and on again, and it did the same thing. Tried it a few times and the exact same every time. It's as if something is warming up. I shot something in raw quick and looked in resolve - no lines across. Never had the original before - is this something anyone has seen before, is it a quirk or a problem? Does anyone have an MFT and is this the way it starts up? lol I don;t know - I have the original pocket and the bmpc 4k and they don't do it. Check video out.

Thanks

Gary

I've got two BMCC, one does that the other does not. The normal one start the screen and fan up then both goes off and then both back on again. The one with the line are even more extreme than yours, it start without turning off and back on, startup with lot of white interference but quickly goes away along with the line, the internal battery is also completely flat so I'm guessing because it is getting its power source externally it does not have the internal battery to help it with a gentle startup that does a stop and start again.

Is the internal battery on your BMCC flat or does not hold charge very well?

I have same issue with my BMCC 2.5 EF. It happens only in RAW mode. I would say it's just a quirk.

Hi WahWay

I'm not sure about internal battery yet, just got it yesterday. But it is not flat, but I don't know yet how well it holds the charge. The single line across the screen happens both with internal battery and when plugged in. It also does it with an external battery. I also noticed yesterday evening very subtle banding travelling up the screen, very subtle, so the camera doesn't sem to be in good shape. I've contacted Blackmagic to see if the guys can spot maybe something simple but so far it looks like it's going to have to go back. Darn wanted one of these for ages.

HI WayWay

OK so plot thickens - when I run the camera on its own with no power source for about 10 mins or so, after that if I switch on and off, there is no longer a line. Not a bit. The minute I plug the camera into the wall socket, the line returns. Then I take the wall socket out of the camera, and let it run for 10 mins again, restart and there is no line. I wonder is it just an internal battery that needs a little exercise?

Hi rangda

I checked it out - this camera does it in RAW, ProRes,DN. It does it when I switch from one to another as well. Funny thing is if the camera is running for a good while, it stops. You can switch on and off and the screen is fine. But if you leave it for a while, the start-up is exactly as WahWay described - kind of white everywhere and that line across. Man if I thought this was just a quirk I would keep it. Boy I wish but if it's gonna pop shortly down the line then I can't.
