What zoom w/IS best overall MFT's lens for BMPCC

PostMon Oct 14, 2013 3:05 pm

Did my first actual job Saturday using my BMPCC in conjunction with 2 HVX's (I didn't bring my BMCC) as the main cameras. Love the results using my 14mm Lumix, but as you know, prime lenses have their drawbacks. I do have the adapters for both my FD and EF lenses, I'm looking to purchase a good MFT zoom lens with IS to serve as my all purpose lens. Right now I'm looking at the Lumix 12-35 F 2.8. Does anyone have actual use with this or any other comparable lens.

Many folks recommend the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 Nikon version with the Metabones Nikon to MFT Speedbooster.

Hands down, 12-35 is the best native mount zoom with or without IS. It covers normal to low tele, has excellent IS, sharp, compact, not too heavy a lens. I am a big fan of it on my BMPCC.

Sheen,
Have you had to upgrade the firmware on the 12-35? Do you know if that can be done at a camera store if you happen to own a BMPCC but no Panasonic camera? Maybe firmware updates for lenses are rare?

Thanks in advance.

Steve, I have not had to yet, although I do own a Panasonic still camera and can use it to update if needed. Anyone with a Panasonic or Olympus m4/3 camera should be able to update the lens firmware if needed. And yes, firmware updates are generally rare, more often than not to update compatibility with a newer model of camera (ie if Panasonic came out with a GH4), rather than to address issues with the lens.

Does the Lumix 12-35 have any of the issues BMPCC users have experienced with other lenses which have electronic control of the aperture ? ie- no aperture control at all.
