Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 on Speed Booster / Pocket Camera

Decided to splurge and get the 18-35mm F1.8 in Nikon mount. The Metabones Speed Booster for MFT and EF seemingly got lost in space and time. I have the Nikon version and it's really good on Micro Four Thirds, much better corners than the NEX E-mount version.

Here's what it looks like -

I do notice a bit of vignetting at 18mm on the GH3's 2x crop sensor with Speed Booster but fine on the Pocket Cinema Camera.

On the Pocket it's easily in cinema glass league I think, without the $40k price tags. More info here: http://www.eoshd.com/content/11294/ulti ... ed-booster

Anyone else have this lens? I'd like to try it on the 2.5K BMCC next, but mine is an EF mount version. If you're in Berlin with the MFT model let me know and maybe we can do a meet-up.

Great, you sold me on this combo. The Berlin train footage feels like images from Wim Wenders The American Friend, Until the End of the World... nice!

I just got my Speed Booster in today and honestly you shouldn't own a Pocket camera and not have a speed booster. It's that good! Unless you have top notch glass :)

I think he means you should own SpeedBoost if you own the camera.
I'm actually inclined to use Nikon F mount class.
Consider that with SpeedBoost crop factor is down to almost 2 rather than 2.88.

I want a speed booster badly... But I have so much Canon glass I have to wait for the EF/MFT version that they say they're working on... Too bad there's no indication about when we can expect the damn thing...

I'm anxiously awaiting the LenTurbo FD-to-m43, hopefully in Nov, for my FD collection.

Although my 50mm is 100mm on the Pocket having 0.95 f-stop is pretty cool. The sharpness has improved on my other nikon lens as well. My Sigma was suppose to be here today but no clue where it is.. smh UPS

I just received my Sigma 18-35 Nikon mount and even though its working perfectly, inside where the lens is, is full of tiny particles that look like dust but is shiny. When I look at the front lens it is filled with those shiny specs of something, could be glass. I am going to have to return it.

Also, even though the video image from the Sigma is beautiful, the images from my Zeiss zf 28mm are much nicer. The Zeiss zf 28mm looks way more cinematic. The Sigma 18-35 compared to the Zeiss looks like video instead of cinematic. I think it blows the Sigma out of the water. I am using both on the Pocket camera with the speed booster. I was about to get rid of my Zeiss zf 28mm since I got the Sigma, but now I don't know what to do.

I wish they would release the 18-35 in America. I've not seen hide nor hair mentioning it anywhere here. Does anyone in the US have one?

There are a number floating around in the US

I just half-tested one today on the Speedbooster, thanks to another forum member.

On both the 2.5K and Pocket Camera I'd call it an okay solution, only because it definitely hazes bokeh, but not too much to be offensive. I didn't check this out in lowlight, though, which is bound to look worse.

which lens would you recommend to use with Speed booster under $1000?

I live and got mine in the U.S. I ordered mine last night from Amazon paid $3.99 for overnight delivery and received it today. It was the last one they had in stock. Now it says wait time is 1 -3 months.

18-35 Sigma. Haha.

But seriously... 18-35 Sigma. Without the Speedbooster the lens is probably the second best choice on glass I have ever made, the first being Contax Zeiss glass way back in the 35mm Adapter days.

Traded three lenses to get this one and do not regret it, sharp wide open, great modern look, both the Pocket and 2.5K seem to like it a alot, and it's 800.00.

I need to take more time with the SB + 18-35 combo... I think that it's a safe purchase if you're not interested in getting any M4/3 only glass, and may have decent resale value going forward? If it weren't for the coma in the bokeh it would be a no brainer, but it's there... and, I can't stand looking at bokeh coma (personally).

On the 2.5K it definitely puts it into an S35 feel/range, so that's cool.

Edit: I should also add that I am not after a vintage film look, but just a good look or base to build on. That's my perspective, and I think the Sigma offers that. If I had the extra money I would probably own that and a set of Zeiss ZEs up to 135.

I can't wait to test out the new Otus 55/1.4.

Thanks for the reply. I was doing my own kind of a research and I just could not find a better choice under $1000, so I guess that's the lens I'll buy.

You all ordering from Amazon or the U.S. are you paying $799? All I see on Amazon are the insane markups ($899 and up), which I assumed to be import models. Are the copies you all have imports?
