Brexit: Germany to UK and back

PostSat Apr 24, 2021 3:56 pm

Hi,

has anyone had experience with repairs or replacements after Brexit? I am currently having problems getting a replaced camera out of German customs without paying customs duties and 19% German VAT for my property.

I am now without the camera for 5 (!) weeks.

Thanks

Been told the camera I ordered a month ago is stuck in Germany. More to do with their lockdown issues though it was explained to me.

You are in the UK and ordered a camera in Germany?
BMPCC4k ist out of stock in Germany due to Brexit (not due to lockdown) but it is in stock in the UK.

I have the same problem in Spain.

I need to send to UK for repair, and paid import taxes later.

I asked Blackmagic for a repair center in Europe with no response yet.

Did BMD pay those taxes back to you?

BMD seems not to know the import/export rules after Brexit.

Reading through the FAQ of customs of my own country, it seems the item needs to be declared as a temporay export when shipping _to_ BMD, and then when it comes back you need to provide the temporary export declaration that was made when shipping it originally along with the documentation proving the repair was done under warranty free of charge to get it released.

Were customs ok to pay the tax later?

A DHL from the UK to Spain or reverse used to be next day. It now takes a minimum of 4 days if there are no customs hickups. I just ordered from CVP in the UK and at the moment they are pre paying any duty at their expense. This takes care of any customs issues. This is how damaging Brexit must have been for companies.
My camera had to go to BM in the UK. This was back in January. It was sent with an invoice from myself that stated "TEMPORARY EXPORT FOR REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY". The camera took 10 days to get to BM mostly just sitting in a customs warehouse. They then sent it back to me via a freight forwarder in the Netherlands who handled any customs issues. The camera arrived back to me with no customs issues. The only problem was the whole process took about a month! I have to say non of this was the fault of BM, they kept me up to date at all times and provided excellent service.

F***ing Brexit! Things were so smooth before. BM needs to move their European headquarters.
I still remember that hazzle from the days when some of our electronic equipment could be repaired in the US only.
