Actually to add to this I am doing slider shots and would like my subject to stay in focus. Am I understanding that a Parfocal lens will help with this?

A parfocal lens maintains focus while zooming. With a wide angle and slider shots you will have to pull focus on your subject as the camera moves.

Might this qualify?

Tokina 11-16 Nikon mount

With SpeedBoost on Pocket it would be roughly 22-32mm and f2.0. Constant Aperture, not sure about parfocal and not sure if the zoom range is enough for you.

There's a II version

When using a slider, parfocal might not even help, because to stay focused you actually have to change focus to compensate for the motion to/from your subject!

what if I kept the actual distance the same and used a motorized zoom instead of FF, then the subject should stay in focus while actually moving on all 3 axis, correct?

If you keep the distance to the subject the same, then a parfocal lens will not need refocussing while zooming. But you should be aware that zooming in reduces the depth of field, so to be sure you should pull focus at the longest focal length and then zoom out, otherwise you might loose focus after all.
