BMPCC 6K Control with RS2

PostMon Apr 26, 2021 11:55 am

Hi everybody,

Since the 7.3 update, it seems that the BMPCC 6k cannot be controlled via usb cable anymore on the DJI RS2.

I have an exclamation mark in the DJI app next to the "camera control", and what seems odd is that I can "middle push" the button and it starts autofocusing but stops right in the middle.

Maybe something in the 7.3 changed something in the signal coming out of the USB ?

Anyone experiencing the same issue ?

Thanks !

I'm having the same issue with the Weebill S. Can't control the camera any longer.

Yes i can also confirm using the record button on the DJI RS2 to control the pocket 6k pro record function via USB-C is broken after this update.

Hi, the same here:
after the update 7.3 the wheel on the RS2 can not control the focus on my BMPCC 6K anymore. I love the RGB-Parade and the BRAW 4K recording option along with the other cool new features, but I am glad that I was able to dial back to 6.9.6. Without camera control the RS2 is almost useless for my kind of shooting. Please get that bug repaired soon. Thank you!

Is there any documentation somewhere on the usb-c camera control protocol ?
I checked the manual again and couldn't see anything related in the "developper informations" section of it.

EDIT: Nevermind, it's standard USB PTP class control.

No more communication between the 6K Pro and RS2 since the update to 7.3.
Thx.

Thanks everybody, in a sense this means it's not a problem with my gear but this coupled with the other problems of the 7.3 starts to feel like I will stay on 6.9 for a while.

Thanks !

Same exact problem here on my RS2.

How long do they expect this to be fixed?

Is it possible to downgrade? My 6k Pro is fairly useless without focus and record start/stop.

Every appropriate camera update earlier than 7.3 can be used to revert to a previous firmware level.

I am having the same problem with Zhiyun Weebill S and BMPCC 4k after update.

I have emailed Zhiyun but no reply as yet.

The focus wheel is now a defocus wheel.

The Weebill S cannot connect directly to the camera any more it needs the Zhiyun Wireless Trasmission accessory. But still only can defocus.

Hopefully Blackmagic are using their black arts to magic up a solution. Hope I"m not getting too technical for you.

I am having the same problem with the Zhiyun Weebill s and BMPCC 4K since the 7.3 update. I hope they release an update to fix this soon. Should I contact Blackmagic or Zhiyun since the Blackmagic update caused the problem?

Anyone have any info on if the latest RS2 firmware addresses this issue? I'm afraid to update if it truly breaks focus motor control. Its one thing to reach up and manually start and stop recording but no focus motor will make my setup all but unusable.

I have the latest RS2 firmware installed, the focus wheel does work with my PCC4k (still on a 6.8.x firmware).

The user above was talking about the Zhiyun which is a totally different gimbal.
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

So much to learn still (never really dabbled with gimbals before) but picked up an RS2 to use as a mini remote control head for a small commercial I have coming up.

Active Tracking is absolutely extraordinary. I haven't even connected a focus wheel to it yet (system is a bit on the heavy side at the moment:
pocket 6k
laowa 12mm cine
tilta half cage
raveneye
tilta power base
hawk woods m98 v mount
arri lmb 4x5 with a lindsey optics rota pola

The thing is, despite all that junk - it balances. it works. there's room to move around freely. At one extreme end some vibration is introduced but that's it.

I picked up a float as well which I'll be hopefully getting to squeeze around my waist (if I do some exhalation exercises!) this weekend. I think the hydra/predator is next if it goes well. Remarkable what is unlocked with such small, relatively inexpensive things.

Not quite sure I've figured how to record controling it with a phone over raveneye yet - may not be possible and hitting record just records a proxy in the phone or something?

Wish SmallHD would come out with some kind of interface like their cine control monitors so I wouldn't have to use an app on a phone.
