hello, I wish to be honest with you, I know you are the developers of the Black Magic so maybe it's not very well balanced for me to ask about general questions here, you have your job here so maybe we cannot discuss about other camera platforms, but I will try to free my mind and just explain my preoccupations. I trust you can help me in some way.

For 4 years I have learned a lot about canon lenses. I was planning to buy a nice camera to shoot my movies, and then I figured it out which kit lenses I had to buy for it. That was a long long research.

Now, with the coming out of the RAW my plans have been destroyed, I was going to buy a full frame canon camera used (5DMII) to shoot in h.264, but I stopped myself. Now I wish to shoot in RAW.

What I have now in my home is just a nice 50mm 1.8 prime lens from canon. But I still having not the camera to film with. I have only one lens and anything else.

I wish to ask you, If I buy the BMPCC is the 50mm 1.8 useful?
50mm 1.8 on canon is famous because it's cheap and sharpen, and 1.8 is very nice for night shots and bokeh.
Which would be the analogue canon for BMPCC for price, f stop, sharpen? Thx.

Another question is about my PC. If I buy the BMPCC can I work with the RAW files?

I have not an Nvidia GPU, mine is ATI, I cannot have CUDA aceleration right? so how can I work with RAW on my PC?
I cannot change PC, it's too expansive.

If you can help me with those question I could try maybe to left my plans with canon. It's all, really expansive for me, it's a sacrifice.

Thanks a lot.

Dan

The Pocket Camera does not have RAW.

It might have it one day, but currently, it does not.

You will need an adapter for the 50mm on the BMPCC, one that can control the manual aperture (could be pricey) also the 50mm will be very telephoto (around 150mm) on the pocket. Maybe ditch the 50 and get a Panasonic kit lens for about the same price. Raw is rumored to be coming soon.

Good luck with your costume business ;)

You should be able to edit on a PC depending on your choice of software. I am using Adobe Premiere Pro and other Adobe Creative Cloud tools on a PC. Adobe supports GPU acceleration on both ATI and NVIDIA (check their site for a list of supported processors). They will support raw when it is available.

Regarding RAW (cDNG). It's already in beta for the Pocket and the beta testers have posted about their testing as BMD has given them permission to talk.

Actually I think BMD is very wise about how they're handling that. Rather than issue a date, miss it, get skewered or, keep it a secret and be accused of not communicated, they appear to have lifted the veil of secrecy (NDA) and have allowed the testers to talk.

cDNG is being tested on the Pocket and they're being open about that.

I'd thought I'd mention that RedRock seems to have a Canon EF to MFT mount which supports aperture control.
It doesn't impact the crop factor like the MetaBones SpeedBoost which doesn't have a Canon EF to MFT.... yet.
