Gen 5 colour to Rec 709 LUT

PostWed May 05, 2021 1:39 pm

Hi, so I have the new 6K Pro and this is my first time with RAW video, I'd usually do a colour space transform and convert using a technical LUT to get it to Rec 709. There is no LUT for Gen 5 to Rec 709 in resolve though. How do other people do this?

if the output color space is set to rec 709 in the projec settings,
the timeline is automatically rec 709.

therefore no further CST is necessary with BRAW

I think the LUTs you are looking for are named :
Blackmagic Gen 5 Film to Extended Video.cube
Blackmagic Gen 5 Film to Video.cube

They are in the Blackmagic Design folder under LUTS
Mac mini
Apple M1 chip with 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine
16GB unified memory
512GB internal SSD storage
various external drives

in a colorspaced managed environment are no LUTs necessary

Assuming, and only assuming, color management supports Gen5. Does the latest version of Resolve do so? Last I heard, it doesn't. But there *are* Gen5 LUTs available. Unless you can you confirm RCM and ACEs support Gen5 in the latest 17 release....?

only the latest DR 17.1.1 supports the latest gen 5 color sience.

ACES has not updated to gen 5 > will be in the next update of DR

Good to know Mark. I didn’t read the thread you pointed to. Do you know if that next update will also support the new ACES 1.3?

The Blackmagic Video and 709 transforms are two different animals with vastly different curves. If not using a color managed workflow the only proper G5 into 709 transform is in the Camera Raw tab.

Good Luck

sorry, no info about ACES 1.3 : -(

and if the 1.3 will be included in the next resolve version i don't think so,
because ACES 1.3 is relatively new.

This thread was regrettably quite unhelpful in response to the question, which is an extremely common concern. But Google is boosting this thread to the top of search results for anyone seeking the LUT as requested. You will find the downloadable LUT, corrected to remove flags that prevent import, at:

The LUT is already in the Blackmagic Design folder in the LUT folder in Resolve. It's called 'Blackmagic Gen 5 Film to Video'

Obviously. And then you totally ignored the failure of those files to load, without visiting the thread I cited and downloading the corrected LUTs posted by a Blackmagic employee. Again, this thread is misleading and needs to direct people to the other thread, as I have.

The original poster was looking for Gen 5 Luts in Resolve. If you needed luts for other NLE's that is a totally different question.
