BlackMagic! Please add additional off speed rates!

PostThu May 06, 2021 5:09 pm

I know the BMPCC's have time lapse and slow motion, but I would like to see a few more variable frame rates under the normal frame rates.

When filming fight and action scenes, it is often a good trick to film a few frames slower than normal so when played back at "normal" frame rate, the action seems faster than it really was.

This is very useful for fight scenes, car chases, running, etc.

Please add 20,21,22,and 23 alongside 26,27,28,and 29 to the frame rates with full audio at the "base" frame rates of 24, 23.97, 29.97 and 30.

Being able to both under and overcrank the camera gives a whole new layer of flexibility to these wonderful cinema cameras!

Perhaps I’m not understanding but off speed already can do this. Say you set the project frame rate as 30 fps. You can set and enable off speed at 33 fps if you want action to appear slower and 27 fps if you want playback to be faster. Audio will be recorded at 30 fps.

I was filming on my BMPCC 4k the other day (7.3 update) in 24 fps and couldn't seem to go below 23.94... did I miss something? There is a 21, 22, 23?

I also think a nice touch on the menu to remind you that you are undercranked would be nice.

I have yet hesitated to upgrade to 7.3 because of issues. It may be broken in 7.3, IDK. But as Rick said, you can over/under crank the off speed already. This is on my P6K.

You need to use the "off speed" function. Those frame rates exist. Page 47 of the English section of the current manual.

The setting you have been changing is the "project rate". You want to change the "sensor rate:"
