I'm getting the ursa 12k this week or next week and a couple months from now i'm getting the vazen 50mm t2.1 1.8x anamorphic lens. And I know for 12k, 8k and 4k they have anamorphic modes. What's the work flow with that resolution? Is it possible for me to use 1.8x anamorphic or is it only for 2x anamorphic?

I've used a Vazen 85mm 1.8x on the 12K. You'll be able to monitor in 2x but I didn't really find that to be a problem.

In terms of workflow, Resolve will allow you to select 1.8x desqueeze.

Anamorphic on the 12K isn’t too different from Anamorphic on the 4.6K. 12K Anamorphic uses 7,680x6,408 of the sensor just like the 4.6K uses 3,072x2,560 of the sensor. This is for 2X anamorphic desqueeze to achieve a 2.4:1 aspect ratio. Here’s an example of the UMPG2 with Atlas Orion Anamorphic lenses:

2X Anamorphic Lenses are hands down the best way to achieve a true anamorphic look. I definitely prefer the Atlas Orion Anamorphic lenses over the Vazen. Far better characteristics of anamorphic widescreen.

The 50mm 1.8x Vazen looks really nice, probably the nicest out of their line up, and it's PL mount, but for more focal lengths its probably better to go with a company that has a matching set, i.e. Atlas Orion.

Sounds like your lens isn’t mounted properly! A perfectly vertical axis is required so as not to skew the image on the frame. Which lens and mount are you using?

No company is intentionally selling an anamorphic lens that produces a diagonal image; that would be, for example, 45 degrees out of alignment. If you are sure you have mounted the lens correctly, I would contact the vendor as it might be that a critical element within the lens is out of alignment.or simply return the lens explaining that the anamorphic stretch is on a diagonal.
