Pocket 6k pro ND colour shift fix?

PostMon May 10, 2021 11:03 pm

Hey all,

First off the pocket 6k is an amazing camera that I'm grateful is in a price point I can even afford. With that comes a few give and take moments one of which is the difference in colour shift between ND strengths and presumably between difference camera batches.

I found the user end calibration of the LCD an elegant way to address the issue on that front where not all are effected to the same degree. A similar method could be employed allowing the user to link custom white balance/ tint correction to each ND strength? Activating an ND would kick in it's linked profile. Some sort of reference test would need to be created in camera to easily match an image with no filtration to each ND range.

I doubt an original idea but I'd like to hear if you believe it to be possible and the challenges I may not have accounted for?

Cheers!

Do the wb before shooting…
Nd introduce color shifting very weak, and you can notice not every time be cause is very situation / light related, that mean I can have very small shifting with same nd value and same setup during different hours of day where color of light change and that mean is filtered in different way.

Thinking that you can create a simple preset about color light shifting by nd is too optimistic.

Just don't use the NDs. They aren't that good. Pick up some Firecrest IRNDs instead.

Firecrest don't seem to be available in 58mm. :(
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Standard procedure with any ND filtration is as carlomacchiavello stated; perform white balance AFTER choosing ND filtration desired.
