Split Diopter?

I've been shopping around for a split diopter.

This is for a single shot and I've never used a split diopter before. I assume there are a bunch out there with different glass for different focal distances.

I own a kit of Rokinon cine lenses and a bunch of old Nikons on the bmcc mft.

The only pertinent info I can think of is that the actors I want in focus are roughly 15-20ft apart.

Any suggestions??

The Cokin Split Field + 3 Filter is pretty good but the edge (blur) between the foreground and the background is fairly pronounced so you need to make sure to position that blur over a straight edge. e.g. doorway or wall corner.

The Schneiders have less pronouncement of blurring (because the glass is thinner) and are really good, but also 10 times more expensive.

Thanks David,

The guys at BH are not sure, however, that this would work on my Rokinon lenses. They couldn't give me much information -- they never even heard the term before, so this was all new to them as well.

So wha exactly is the Cokin and how will it interact with my Rokinons? Is it just a filter with half glass half clear that I can screw over the existing lens??

Thanks for your help.

Max

Well BH sell them so you must have spoken with an idiot.

For the rokinon's you'll want the P size. You also need to get a cokin p filter holder and 77mm adapter ring for your lens thread. Now the cokin filter holders are around 30 bucks but third party knockoffs can be bought on amazon for 3 bucks. Just search for on amazon for cokin P filter holder and the cheap ones will show up, same as the adapter rings- third parties are cheaper and exactly the same thing. Your adapter rings must also be "P" All three items must be "P"

Theres also on BH a company called Kood who make cokin filter knockoffs for a about a third the price of the cokin (about 16 bucks as opposed to 50). Just do a search on BH for "cokin split field" and they show up. I havent tried these but they look about the same.

And yes, its just half a piece of glass in a square holder. You focus on the background (the empty side of the filter) and the glass side magnifies the foreground so you physically move either your focal point or the camera until the foreground is in focus. It's totally easy.
